The Meiji era playhouse Korakukan is still active and performing live (popular theater and other) for over 115 years. The 2025 performances are as follows: April 23rd to July 27th: "Shitamachi Kabuki Gumi" - Leader Mimine Tooru -> Star actor Shingetsu Kaito -> Star actor Hitomi Hiroshi (Star actor Subaru Toma) - They will perform in rotation for about one month each time. The Meiji-era playhouse "Korakukan" was built in 1910 as a welfare facility for the Kosaka Mine employees. The exterior of the building is Western-style, while the interior is purely Japanese-style. Its most distinctive feature is its blend of Japanese and Western styles, which is rare for a playhouse. Staff dressed in black costumes will guide you through the Korakukan facility. This is a special experience of walking along a beautiful clear stream flowing from the vast beech forest of the Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage Site. It will be held in the Fujikoto River in Akita Prefecture. The river is so clean that you can see the bottom. You will not meet anyone else during the trek. You can enjoy a sense of privacy. You may encounter birds and fish. A guide will accompany you, so even if you are new to river trekking, you can feel at ease. If it gets hot, you can swim or jump in. Lunch (included in the tour price) is a bento box made with locally grown rice and wild vegetables. You will eat it by the side of the clear stream. It is a day where you can feel the untouched nature with your whole body. On rainy days, you can change to Shirakami Forest trekking. It's time to harvest Yama Sauvignon, a grape variety made from wild grapes. Why not try picking grapes for wine at Albion's vineyards, which are spread across Fujisato Town at the foot of the Shirakami Mountains? The grapes are carefully harvested one by one and aged slowly in barrels at the winery. After about a year and a half, they are sold on the market as Shirakami-Sanchi wine and enjoyed by everyone. A guide will take you on a stroll through Kimimachizaka Prefectural Natural Park, a sacred place for lovers. At Koibumi Shrine in the park, you can make a wish on a heart-shaped votive plaque, or post a postcard with your feelings written on it to receive a heart postmark. After your stroll, enjoy a kumiko craft experience that will allow you to experience the history and techniques of Noshiro City, which once flourished through the processing of Akita cedar wood. You can take your kumiko home as a strap or pendant.
