Before the performance, a Noh experience (4 times in total) will be held for those who will be attending on the day [advance reservation required]! In addition, you can use the subtitle commentary service "Noh Support" for free. This service is recommended for beginners and foreigners who are new to Noh, as it automatically displays lines and commentary (in Japanese and English) on your smartphone! An industrial jacquard loom has 14,200 warp (vertical) threads, with weft (horizontal) threads moving back and forth between them. There is slight unevenness in thickness. The craftsman adjusts them while threading, and operates the loom while keeping an eye on it to ensure that it runs smoothly. Today, there are almost no highly specialized craftsmen even within the production area, which is one of the reasons why Kokura Textile receives requests from world-famous brands. Time to face the once-in-a-lifetime wood that comes to the workshop after an eternity After graduating from university, he learned the technique of turning wood in the mountains of Kaga City, next door to Komatsu, and is currently working as a lacquer artist in Komatsu City. Ms. Fumiko Iku is a woodturner who manufactures products. In this program, you can experience making wooden bowls at Mr. Iku's workshop "Hoori", which is located in a rural village. Trees grow thick over decades, and even after being felled, they take a long time to dry before being brought into the workshop by chance. Mr. Iku's work as a woodturner is one in which he stoically faces the products of time. In this program, we invite you to learn about the roots of the tree, feel the warmth of the tree itself, and feel the wonder of handiwork, and try making your own wooden vessel. Ishizai Aratani Shoten is a stone shop that currently manages the only active stone quarry in Takigahara, where there were once many stone quarries. In this program, under the guidance of Mr. Shuichiro Funatsu, a geoguide who is familiar with the Takigahara area, and Mr. Yuki Araya, the owner of Ishizai Araya Shoten, we will tour the traditional arch bridges around the stone quarry and the inside of the quarry, while visiting Komatsu. You can see, learn about, and experience stone culture and history. Ishizai Aratani Shoten is a stone material shop that manages the only active stone quarry in Takigahara, which used to have many stone quarries. In this program, an arch bridge and quarry made of Takigahara stone will be guided by Mr. Shuichiro Funatsu, a sculptor and geoguide who uses Takigahara stone for creative activities, and Mr. Yumi Aratani, the current owner of Stone Aratani Shoten. In this production area, where division of labor and outsourced production were once the norm, the original cross jacquard company established its own design department 30 years ago and continues to pursue the possibilities of new textiles. In this spirit, the factory is currently operating state-of-the-art machines that can turn children's drawings and photographs into textiles using design technology and jacquard looms. During the tour through the GEMBA program, students will learn about the process used to create highly accurate textiles that are not prints, and can be mistaken for photographs or works of art.They will also be able to see hand looms, old-style jacquard looms, and cutting-edge jacquard looms and textiles.
