"Learn, interact, and experience. A historical experience of the mountain pass" Special tour to commemorate the designation of the Nakasendo Usui Pass as a national historic site Walk with a guide along the remains of the Nakasendo in Annaka City. Guide earphones are used, so you can hear the explanation clearly even from a distance without crowding. Along the way, you can listen to the stories of local people who have connected and protected history, as well as enjoy a special lunch box only available on this tour from the long-established "Tamaya Drive-In" that has continued from the "National Historic Site Hasekichaya" in the place where it was founded. This tour allows you to enjoy the real thing in the local area, which is possible only because it is a tourism organization that is with the local community. Please feel free to join us! ●Tour details Annaka City has four post towns on the Nakasendo, and in the west is Usui Pass, which is on the border with Nagano Prefecture. This time, to commemorate the designation as a national historic site, we will walk along an old road in the west of Annaka City, which has been a key transportation point since the days of the Tosando road. We depart from Annaka City Tourism Organization, pass through the remains of the Usui Barrier, a national historic site, and Sakamoto-juku, and enter the old Nakasendo mountain pass at curve 9 on the old National Route 18. In Sakamoto-juku, we visit the secret treasures at the Wakihonjin Nagai Family Memorial Museum, where Emperor Meiji once rested, and have lunch in the vicinity, where we can get a panoramic view of the Sakamoto-juku townscape from a place called "Nozoki" on Mt. Haneishi. After lunch, we walk through the mountain forest, which still retains the appearance of the time, while visiting historical sites along the way, and head for Kumano Shrine and the observation deck at the top of the mountain. ●Time schedule (approximate) 9:25 Meet and check in at Annaka City Tourism Organization (441-6 Yokokawa, Matsuida-cho, Annaka City) *You can make it on the 8:49 Shinetsu Line from Takasaki 9:30 Depart 9:40 Visit the remains of the Usui Barrier, a national historic site 10:10 Sakamoto-juku Visit the Nagai Family Memorial Museum, where Emperor Meiji once rested! 11:00 Head towards Karuizawa from C9 on the Nakasendo 11:40 Take a peek at the view of Sakamoto-juku!
