Secondly, Shirakawa-go, located at the foot of the sacred mountain Hakusan, is one of the must-visit tourist destinations in Gifu. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this beautiful traditional village is the definition of postcard-like beauty. Shirakawa-go Ogimachi Gassho-zukuri Village is the village with the most remaining Gassho-zukuri houses. The name Gassho-zukuri literally means "like praying hands". Gassho Village will take you back to pre-modern Japan. Climb the Shirakawa-go observation deck, look out over the village, and enjoy the views of a time gone by. Shirakawa-go is worth a return visit as it shows different looks with each passing season.
