In Osugidani, there is a hermit who lives in a house surrounded by waterfalls and mountains where no radio waves can reach. This program allows you to enjoy the great outdoors with the hermit, without being disturbed by anyone, in a spectacular setting with the most beautiful water in Japan. The hermit is a professional outdoor guide. Waterfall tours, cycling, bonfires, picnics...Since this program is limited to one group, we will design a program according to your requests. You will be invited to the hermit's house. *This program can be enjoyed by everyone, from small children to energetic seniors.
Verde's trekking and hiking field, Osugidani, is one of Japan's three major gorges, along with Kurobe and Kiyotsu Gorge. The valley, surrounded by steep mountains, gives birth to the clear Miyagawa River, and combined with the climate that produces abundant water, creates a magnificent waterfall. The Osugidani hiking trail leading to Odaigahara and Hijigatake in Nara Prefecture is inconvenient to access and has many difficult spots, but for hiking enthusiasts, it is a dream destination that they want to visit at least once in their lifetime!

The hermit lifestyle! The place where the hermit lives is an area where there is no radio signal and postal delivery is also suspended. The electricity is specially installed, but the water is mountain water. Living in such a place is not a very eccentric person... But the hermit is a gentleman who loves people, and a professional outdoor guide.
We will tell you the secret spot at the entrance to Osugidani regardless of the season or weather. Osugidani is one of the rainiest areas in Japan. There are nameless waterfalls everywhere, and special spots that only a hermit can show you. This is a program that we are confident will satisfy you, not only in the best season for outdoor activities, but also in any season, even if it rains.
Time schedule
Transfer and meet your guide at Osugidani Mountaineering Center We will drive to the upper reaches of the Miyagawa River and the "Osugidani Mountain Climbing Center" by ourselves. It's about a 40-minute drive. Please be careful with gas.
Tour start and outdoor lunch on the way The tour begins immediately. We guide according to the guest's preferences and physical strength. Along the way, let's enjoy an outdoor lunch at the best spot of the day. The hermit guide says, "The most important thing is where you eat." Lunch enjoyed in a pleasant spot is especially delicious.
Outdoor base gathering The meeting place is next to the popular hamburger and donut shop "BOUQUET". *Depending on the accommodation of the guests and the preparation situation, we may ask you to meet directly at the venue. We will contact you by message.
Second half of the tour: disbandment This tour offers fun activities at the entrance to Osugidani. Enjoy one of Japan's three largest cedar valleys. The tour ends at the local Osugidani Mountaineering Center.
Access - Map
This is the Verde Outdoor Base Momiji no Sato Park facility. After checking in at the meeting point, you will be taken by car back to the meeting point with the hermit. (Depending on your accommodation, we may take you directly to the meeting point.)

Verde is an accredited school of the Japan Safety Paddling Association (JSPA), and our SUP and kayak guides are JSPA certified. In the mountaineering department, we belong to the Kumano Osugidani Guide Association, a local organization of the Japan Mountain Guides Association (JMGA). All of our staff not only provide safe and secure guided tours, but also strive to improve their skills and physical strength through conservation activities and daily training. We provide fun guided tours with safety as our top priority, which is our responsibility and foundation for enjoying activities in nature.
