I was born in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, and I am a qualified teacher of the Omotesenke school who still lives in Nakagyo Ward. Her husband is a descendant of Ihei Ito, who developed somei-yoshino, a cherry blossom variety that is world-famous as the national flower of Japan, at the request of Yoshimune, the eighth shogun of the Tokugawa family. In our classroom, in addition to the antiques given to us by various people and the tea bowls we collected ourselves, we also use old ones given to us by family members. Since sitting in the seiza style puts a lot of strain on the legs, we also offer an experience using a table and chairs called the ryurei style. If you tell us when you make a reservation, even children, the elderly, and people with concerns about their feet and knees can participate with peace of mind. Sashiko is a technique that was born from this and nowadays become one of traditional handicraft which was born from taking good care of things and the wisdom of life. At that time, there were no schools, and Sashiko was passed down from parent to child. Therefore, there is not just one technique, but multiple techniques. The repair method is the same.
