Okhotsk Abashiri is a town where five kinds of crabs are landed, but the number of people who have the rights to catch crabs has decreased. Crab specialty stores in Abashiri are respectfully called "kaniya" (crab shops). In this program, the owner of Kanekatsu Watanabe Suisan, which owns the crab fishing boat Noshiromaru, will teach you everything about Okhotsk crabs. Learn how to distinguish between different types of crabs, how to choose delicious crabs, and tips on thawing crabs to make them taste better, and enjoy freshly boiled king crab (or hairy crab, depending on the season). Plan attractions
Commemorative photo with crabs Take a commemorative photo with a crab taken from the tank inside the store. Since the crab moves, it might be good to take a video. It builds up anticipation for the delicious crab.
Crab boiling tour A crab chef will show you how to boil crab. The amount of salt used when boiling crab varies slightly depending on the type of crab. It takes about 20 minutes to boil the crab, and during that time you will learn about the interesting characteristics of crabs and how to distinguish between the five types of crab that can be found in the Okhotsk Sea. You will also hear how to choose delicious crabs, so you will get useful information even when choosing frozen crabs, making this a very fulfilling program.
Crab cutting experience How to peel a crab is not as easy as you might think. With the help of a craftsman, you will learn how to peel a delicious crab.
Crab Meal You can eat as much of the skillfully cut crab as you like. The crabs caught in Abashiri vary depending on the season. From April to July after the drift ice has disappeared, you can eat hairy crabs, and from August to November, you can eat king crab, golden crab, and blue crab.
