Our ancestors were shinobi samurai who started to serve Tokugawa Ieyasu (the first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate) in 1582. The clan served the shogunate for 265 years. In 1868, the clan declined the invitation from the Meiji Government and became independent. We are the only lasting shinobi clan in Japan. We invite you to come to our clan dojo where real master practitioner and professional interpreters take charge of all workshops and seminars. This is good for people who want to get a deeper insight into our ninja and samurai cultures . We still handcraft our tools and weapons. Feel free to ask any questions as we have kept our shinobi samurai tradition for over 450 years.Our ancestors trained locals and their servants to be shinobi.(Ninja is a new word used in movies. "Studio Seikan" is a facility with a workshop, shop and cafe, where you can visit the manufacturing site of Yamanaka lacquerware, experience woodturning, shop, and enjoy cafe and sweets with lacquerware. This course includes a workshop tour (with explanation) - making a vase - lacquerware experience at the cafe (one drink included). Lacquerware craftsmen work here every day. In this experience, you can observe them up close and learn about lacquerware production. The staff will explain it in an easy-to-understand way. Next, you will make your own original lacquered chopsticks at the place where the craftsmen actually work. Think about the design of the chopsticks and paint them with real lacquer. You can experience authentic lacquer painting. The lacquer craftsmen will teach you carefully, so you can make them yourself until they are completed. You will surely be satisfied. It's fun.
