[Ishikawa/Kaga] Full-scale lacquer painting experience: Make lacquer-painted chopsticks - Includes cafe time with lacquerware

"Studio Seikan" is a facility with a workshop, shop and cafe, where you can visit the manufacturing site of Yamanaka lacquerware, experience woodturning, shop, and enjoy cafe and sweets with lacquerware. This course includes a workshop tour (with explanation) - making a vase - lacquerware experience at the cafe (one drink included). Lacquerware craftsmen work here every day. In this experience, you can observe them up close and learn about lacquerware production. The staff will explain it in an easy-to-understand way. Next, you will make your own original lacquered chopsticks at the place where the craftsmen actually work. Think about the design of the chopsticks and paint them with real lacquer. You can experience authentic lacquer painting. The lacquer craftsmen will teach you carefully, so you can make them yourself until they are completed. You will surely be satisfied. It's fun. After that, you can enjoy drinks made with lacquerware at the cafe and taste sweets. Please relax and enjoy the lacquerware experience. Please feel free to ask the staff or craftsmen if you have any questions. Lacquer can cause a rash, but we check beforehand and use gloves to prevent it from coming into contact with the skin, so even small children can experience it. If you notice any abnormalities on your skin, please tell a member of staff immediately. Please note that we cannot take responsibility in the unlikely event of a rash occurring. Lacquerware workshops usually have a division of labor system, so you can't see many different processes in one place. However, here at "Studio Seikan," you can see several processes, including woodturning, lacquering, and maki-e, all in one place. It's a rare workshop where you can see artisans at work up close. The staff will also explain each process, so you can learn about lacquerware in an easy-to-understand way.

A full-fledged chopstick lacquering experience where a lacquer craftsman will teach you gently and carefully. In this plan, instead of making vessels that require advanced techniques, you will design and paint your own original chopsticks. You will learn how to handle lacquer, as well as the properties of lacquer, and you will broaden your knowledge of lacquerware, making it a very satisfying experience. Liquid lacquer can be very dangerous as it can cause a rash. However, please rest assured that we have sufficient knowledge and experience to ensure that the experience is safe. Small children can also experience this. *Children up to the fourth grade of elementary school must be accompanied by a guardian. The finished work will be handed over or sent to you at a later date. *In rare cases, symptoms such as itching may occur. In that case, we will refrain from the experience.

After the chopstick lacquering experience, you can enjoy it in a lacquerware cup. (One cafe drink is included in the plan.) Please experience the comfort of using wooden utensils. Although it is not included in the plan, you can also enjoy sweets in lacquerware. Please do try it.
