This is a hands-on class for foreign visitors to Japan to experience the traditional Japanese culture of calligraphy. Located in Jimbocho, the town of second-hand books, this calligraphy class is supported by leading instructors who will help you have a memorable experience of Japanese culture, calligraphy. We will assign kanji to your name and prepare a sample in advance. First, while grinding the ink, the instructor will explain the calligraphy tools, how to sit, how to hold and use the brush, etc. You will be carefully taught how to write the kanji for your name, your favorite characters, or the words you want to write, and at the end, you will finish it into a colored paper or fan to take home as a souvenir. All tools will be provided. Please feel free to join us empty-handed.

This is a full-scale one-day training in traditional Japanese martial arts by Isao Machii, the world's best iaido master who has appeared in various media outlets and is known for his iaido technique of cutting 6mm BB bullets flying at high speed. In this experience, you will learn the structure of a sword, how to use it correctly, and deep knowledge about samurai and Japanese swords, and you will be able to master all kinds of traditional Japanese martial arts, including swordsmanship and body techniques. The martial arts you learn under Isao Machii's guidance are different from traditional martial arts that have become mere formalities. In authentic traditional Japanese martial arts, you will learn the techniques to skillfully apply the opponent's strength and toy with your opponent with slight movements. These practical techniques can be applied in everyday life and are sure to greatly change your worldview. Dress in training clothes, dispel the misunderstandings you have about samurai culture and Japanese swords, and experience true samurai culture. Why not try writing characters with all your heart and soul using a large brush held in both hands, like the ones you only see on TV and in magazines? The characters you create as you run around barefoot on a piece of paper bigger than a tatami mat will be a lifelong memory! The instructor, calligrapher Mikami, has a father and mother who are also calligraphers, and has been familiar with calligraphy since childhood. Mikami is very creative and energetic. Not satisfied with ordinary calligraphy paper, he runs around freely on the large calligraphy paper with a large brush held in both hands, and the characters he creates with his whole body are soon becoming a specialty of Naganuma Town. He also performs at Naganuma Town's summer festival and sunset market, and sometimes collaborates with local musicians. This program was created not only to show people this fun, but also to let them experience it. Participants are first surprised by the weight of the brush filled with ink, and are very satisfied with the characters they write with all their heart, sweating. The written characters take time to dry, and there are limitations on where you can hang them. You may only be asked to take a photo in front of the work. Naganuma Town is about an hour's drive from Sapporo, and you can experience the finishing touches of the traditional craft "Wakasa chopsticks"! The final step in making Wakasa chopsticks is polishing. Colorful painted patterns and mother-of-pearl appear on the black lacquered chopsticks.
