Kumamoto Castle One of the three most famous castles in Japan. Also known as Ginkgo Castle, it was built by the famous general Kato Kiyomasa over a period of about seven years, starting in 1601. It is a vast castle with a circumference of 5.3 km and a total area of 98 hectares, with three castle towers, 49 turrets, 18 turret gates, and 29 castle gates, and makes use of unique castle construction techniques that make use of stone walls and the natural terrain. During the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877, the castle was besieged for over 50 days, demonstrating its true value as an impregnable castle, but a fire just before the outbreak of war destroyed the castle tower and Honmaru Palace area. The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1960. In spring, about 800 cherry trees of three types, mountain cherry, Higo cherry, and Somei Yoshino, bloom in full bloom.

Aso Nakadake Crater The Aso Caldera, with its rugged lava rock surface, is one of the world's largest, stretching 18km east to west and 25km north to south. Of the five Aso mountains (Nekodake, Takadake, Nakadake, Eboshidake, and Kishimadake) that stand in the center of the caldera, Nakadake is the one that continues to be the most active to this day. Nakadake is 600m in diameter and 130m deep. From the huge crater with a circumference of 4km, you can see the intense white smoke rising and the dynamic scenery up close.
