Wear a kimono apron (kappogi) and make rolled omelet and rice balls using a copper frying pan made for tamagoyaki. ◆ Handmade Japanese Paper Experience In this experience, you will make handmade Japanese paper using fibers from the bark of the paper tree (kozo), which is the raw material for Japanese paper. You will be able to use a blind, which is an authentic tool for handmade Japanese paper. We will explain how to make paper in an easy-to-understand manner for beginners, so please feel free to participate. You can experience learning papermaking techniques directly from a craftsman. You will learn how to process kozo, a traditional paper material, and hand-make about two sheets of Japanese paper in half a day to take home. ~Experience Flow~ 9:00 (13:30) Orientation An introduction to the types of Yoshino handmade Japanese paper, the experience procedure, and precautions. 9:20 (13:50) Workshop tour The papermaking process of kozo will be explained while looking at actual tools. 9:40 (14:10) Papermaking experience We will prepare the materials together, and each participant will take turns making paper. First, we will learn how to move the paper. Weave flower knots (bellflower and peony) and cobblestone patterns with paper strings, then paste on washi paper. The air is removed and the product is finished by applying several coats of persimmon tannin, a traditional Japanese method. This process may vary in difficulty, but it follows the same process as products sold in stores, so please try experiencing the difficulty and beauty for yourself. You will experience the traditional culture of flower arrangement in a Kyoto townhouse. After learning the basics, you are free to arrange the flowers as you like. Become a samurai wearing armor and have a Japanese sword experience filmed by a professional photographer! Learn how to use, draw and swing a sword in a real martial arts dojo, and at the end you can actually have a sword fight. An assistant will translate in English. You can enjoy a "demonstration and straw cutting" using a real Japanese sword with the true sword technique of Yuujin-ryu.
