Experience beauty and skill through traditional calligraphy in Ninenzaka, the ancient capital of Kyoto. In the quiet space of Ninenzaka, overflowing with atmosphere, enjoy the beauty of calligraphy and spend a relaxing time. We provide careful instruction and an enjoyable learning environment so that even beginners can participate with confidence. Contents of the calligraphy experience Kangetsu's calligraphy experience course is designed to allow beginners and foreigners to enjoy learning about the charm of traditional Japanese culture and calligraphy. The aim is to acquire solid calligraphy skills from the basics while experiencing Japanese culture. Through Japanese calligraphy, let's put our feelings into each and every stroke and create our own unique work.
You will learn basic brush techniques such as how to draw lines, how to move the brush, and how to adjust pressure. You will also experience the basics of Japanese calligraphy, such as "dots" and "brush strokes."
We will practice writing characters using simple kanji characters. We will also learn about the balance between vertical and horizontal writing and character placement.
Through the creation of artwork incorporating seasonal words that reflect the four seasons, you will gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture. We also offer an experience of calming the mind through calligraphy, incorporating the spirit of the tea ceremony and the ideas of Zen.
