The temples you will visit during the tour were visited by the painter Kawai Koume, who lived in the castle town of Wakayama at the end of the Edo period, and will be introduced through her diary, so you can feel closer to the temples. You will cross the beautiful Kino River and visit a museum where you can learn about the rich history of Wakayama.

Plan attractions
Japan Heritage: Daifukuyama Honkeiji Temple This is a Japan Heritage temple said to have been founded by En no Gyoja, the founder of mountain worship. It has remained almost unchanged since the time when the devout Koume first visited the temple.
Lunch at vegan café "REN" There are many types of small dishes and they all look beautiful, so you will be left feeling completely satisfied.
Remains of the horse riding ground at Ogura Shrine This is a temple where horses used to race as a festival to pray for bountiful harvests and safety in the home. It has remained almost unchanged since Koume first saw it.
A painting of chrysanthemums by Koume This is one of Koume's works that is housed at the Wakayama City Museum. If your schedule allows, you can also listen to the curator's explanation.
Summer sweets "Seiryu" Enjoy tea time in the teahouse inside Wakayama Castle. Take a break and admire the sweets and tableware that express the season.

Visit to Daifukuyama Honkeiji Temple We will visit a quiet temple that is not a tourist spot. From Koume's diary, we can imagine life at the end of the Edo period.
Ogura Shrine Visitors can stand in the places where horses were ridden during the Edo period, open Koume's diary, which is an easy-to-understand version of her diary, and enjoy a world of imagination.
Visit to Wakayama City Museum You will view Koume's paintings, get an overview of Wakayama's rich history, and, if time permits, hear a talk by the curator.
Teahouse "Koshoan" This is a tea room where you can enjoy matcha tea without worrying about the proper etiquette. Take a break and admire the seasonal dishes and sweets.
Myozenji Temple where the small plum tree sleeps Visiting the grave allows you to feel closer to Koume. Her husband and grandfather was a scholar who served the Kishu Tokugawa family.
