This is an experience plan for trial cutting (Makiwara) using a Japanese sword (Maken) at a real martial arts dojo. The Yushin-ryu sword technique at the Koryu Iaido Dojo will be taught safely and carefully by a Dan-dan master, so please participate with confidence. The ``Casual Course'' is an experience where you wear a simple iaido belt over your regular clothes. I did both the samurai taijutsu activity and the practice sword cut. The whole experience was fantastic and I learnt so much. Booking through activity Japan the day before was extremely easy as well.

We will send you an email after your reservation is confirmed, so please be sure to check it. Please let us know if you would like more than 6 people to participate. It can accommodate up to 10 people. In this lesson, you will be able to experience Iai, Gekiken (Kendo), and Batto (trial cutting). These three things together are called Kenjutsu. In Iai, you learn how to handle a sword, in Gekiken, you learn how to maintain distance with your opponent, and how to attack and defend, and in Battou, you learn how to cut. ～Flow of the day: Time varies depending on the number of people～① Demonstration (3 minutes) ② Lecture on swords (20 minutes) ③ Changing into training clothes (10 minutes) ④ Iai lesson (20 minutes) ⑤ Gekken lesson (20 minutes) ⑥Trial cutting (20 minutes) *2 straws are provided for each person, but if you would like to cut additional straws, please let us know (2 additional straws: ¥1,500 including garbage disposal fee) ⑦Granting a seal (5 minutes) ⑧Private clothes Change clothes (10 minutes)
This was a very interesting and informative experience. It was an actual lesson in several forms of swordsmanship. The chance to learn some basics, get some feedback, and finally to cut something with a real katana was unforgettable. Very charismatic instructor with good English skills. Definitely worth trying. 楽しくて勉強になりました!ありがとうございました!

It was the perfect accomplishment of a lifetime dream; to one day train in martial arts in Japan. it was a real honor to train with master Isao Machii. This was a really fun and sympathic moment, as aside titles, he still is humble and very kind to everyone interested in his art. This course requires focus; you don't need to be an expert beforehand but you still hold a weapon. It still is very safe and reassuring as he knows how to guide you in doing good. Thank you so much for this very unique moment ! This was one of the best moment I spent in Japan; it will remain as a cherished memory.
