Shirakawa-go Ogimachi Gassho-zukuri Village is the village with the most remaining Gassho-zukuri houses. The name Gassho-zukuri literally means "like praying hands." Gassho-zukuri Village takes you back to pre-modern Japan. Climb the Shirakawa-go observation deck, look out over the village, and enjoy the view of a time gone by. It is a townscape walking tour of the world heritage Iwami Ginzan. On this tour, you will walk around the historic townscape of the World Heritage Site with a local guide from the Iwami Ginzan Guide Association. *Please note that this tour does not visit the mine shaft where silver was mined. The people of the town have continued to live in consideration of the landscape while protecting the ruins. As you walk through the town, you can feel the way of life that unites the community and values the town. During the tour, you will stop by a long-established confectionery shop that has been around since the Edo period and enjoy interacting with the locals. At Kanzeonji Temple, you can see the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine ruins and the townscape lined with red Sekishu tiles. Enjoy a leisurely stroll with your guide. One bottle of mineral water is provided for each participant. After the tour, you will receive a souvenir of your participation.
