I had a great time doing this sashiko workshop. Keiko was very kind and explained how to do things very well. It may be more difficult if you don't have any prior experience with hand sewing but it is still doable with some patience and concentration. We did not finish the project but were given instructions on how to finish the piece. You learn all the skills you will need in the time allotted. The shop was easy to find using the instructions given on the canoha website.

In this plan, you can choose your favorite from M course, T-shirt (90 – XXXL), tote bag (medium size), and the whole process of Japanese traditional craft "Roketsu dyeing" "Dyeing and drying from drawing" You will experience "until". No need for painting, even children are OK! !! A locust dyeing craftsman will carefully guide you. Choose from many sketches and combine them. Also, the original design is OK. Trace the sketch using a brush with wax, then put on boots, apron, and gloves and dye it yourself. After dyeing, remove the wax you drew and you're done. The part drawn with wax remains white as the original fabric without being dyed, and you can easily create simple and deep works dyed with wax, such as shades due to the thickness of the wax and crack patterns due to wax cracks. The work is completed in about 90 to 120 minutes and you can take it home on the day. ~ Flow of the day ~ ① There are many sketches available, so you can choose your favorite sketch from them. The original design is also OK ② Once the sketch is decided, trace the sketch using a brush with wax. Draw a rough sketch with the heated wax included in the brush. ③ Dye the cotton cloth with the sketch drawn with wax in the dye. Please enjoy the dyeing experience by yourself. ④ Soaping work: Put the dyed cotton cloth in a kettle with boiling water and remove only the wax from the cloth. ⑤ Wash the cotton cloth from which the wax has been removed, dehydrate it with a dehydrator, and then dry it. ⑥ You can take home the finished work on the day. Come to Kanazawa! Whether it's sunny or rainy, wear a kimono and have fun! Even in Kanazawa, a city that looks good in kimonos, it would be a waste to just wear a kimono and go sightseeing! Since it's a rare opportunity, why not try to experience a little bit of Kanazawa's traditional culture and have an experience that can only be had at that time. "Even if you forget your lunch, don't forget your umbrella!" Kanazawa has a lot of rain, so you're worried about whether you can take a leisurely stroll in a kimono... If you try making kimono scrap art, you don't have to worry about that at all! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------<What is kimono scrap art making?>This is an experience where you carefully unravel kimonos that can no longer be worn due to holes caused by burning or stains that won't come off, and use small pieces of kimono scraps to paste them onto stencils to create a one-of-a-kind art piece. We have a variety of stencils unique to Kanazawa, such as the Tsuzumimon Gate at Kanazawa Station, the Kotoji lantern at Kenrokuen, and Kanazawa Castle, so please choose your favorite one! There are also easy stencils such as dinosaurs and flowers for children. Anyone can easily get started. It's interesting that even with the same pattern, the kimono scraps used can make a variety of different works! Choose your favorite kimono from the variety of kimonos available. Leave the dressing to us! (Hair set is an additional ¥2,200) ② After dressing, you will create a one-of-a-kind kimono scrap art. Choose your favorite pattern, cut the scraps with scissors and paste them with glue. There is no answer to art! Some people create bold works, others delicate ones! A lacquer workshop in Maejima, Naha City, offers a "simple gold lacquer" experience class for tourists and those who want to try gold lacquering even though they don't have much time. This class incorporates traditional gold lacquering techniques, but is a shortened version that anyone can easily enjoy. You can have a unique experience of repairing broken vessels and broken items using the gold lacquering technique and breathing new life into them. "Simple gold lacquer" is perfect for travelers with limited time, and even beginners can participate with confidence. By decorating the broken parts as "scenery", you can create original works full of individuality. However, since the works made in this experience are simplified versions, they cannot be used for eating or drinking, but they are perfect for interior art that can be enjoyed as ornamental or accessory trays. Vessels that you repair yourself and add your own design will become a special one-of-a-kind item, and by displaying them in your home or office, they will become wonderful art pieces that will decorate your space! Full-scale gold lacquer experience classes using real lacquer are also held regularly every month. You can take your time to repair vessels and broken items while carefully learning traditional techniques, and experience discovering new beauty.
