With a history of 1400 years, tiles have protected Japanese houses, including shrines and temples. Among them, there are "Onishi" who have the skills of a master craftsman who draws a blueprint in his head while looking at the drawing with his own eyes without using blueprints or molds, and finishes it only with the sense of his fingertips and a handmade spatula. You can make a one-of-a-kind oni tile by learning from an "Onishi" how to make oni tile by hand using "name-do" soil that is more than 2 million years old. Awaji Island is one of the three major production areas of tiles in Japan, and is the number one producer of smoked tiles that shine with "silver". Tiles have a history of more than 1400 years, and tile making has been going on in Awaji Island for more than 400 years. Moreover, the soil used for Awaji tiles is still more than 2 million years old, and the very fine particles of "name-do" are used to create smoked tiles that shine with a beautiful silver color by baking (smoking) them in a kiln. In Japan, onigawara tiles have been used to decorate roofs as a talisman since ancient times. Even today, these onigawara tiles are carefully handcrafted by oni-shi (demon craftsmen) without the use of machines. Normally, you don't get to see onigawara tiles being made, but in this experience, you can watch the onigawara craftsmen's skills up close and make onigawara tiles together. Since this experience is limited to one group, you can make onigawara tiles without worrying about other people. If you have any questions or questions about how to make them, you can ask the onigawara maker at any time, and it is an experience where you can experience traditional techniques in a private atmosphere. [Procedure] 1. Draw a rough sketch of the image (you can also bring a draft with you) 2. Decide on the design of the onigawara tile 3. Together with the onigawara maker, use tile clay (nametsu) to create a rough shape 4. Let it cure (eat lunch (each person) during this time) 5. Finish the fine details using a spatula and your fingertips 6. Completed (you can also take a commemorative photo with the onigawara maker) *The work will then be carefully dried and fired and delivered in about two months. *For lunch, you can enjoy Awaji Island's specialty "Kawara-yaki" at the facility (additional charge required).

"Circular agriculture", a traditional agricultural system that has been practiced in Minami Awaji City for over 100 years and is certified as a Japanese agricultural heritage, is an advanced production circulation system unique to Awaji Island that combines rice, onions, and cattle breeding. This is an SDGs experience tour where you can visit spots that are full of the characteristics of this region, such as onion huts, long-house gates, and reservoirs, and experience the secret of the deliciousness of onions through an actual onion harvesting experience. "Circular agriculture", a traditional agricultural system that has been practiced in Minami Awaji City for over 100 years, is a production circulation system unique to Awaji Island that combines rice, onions, and cattle breeding, and was certified as a Japanese agricultural heritage in 2020. In order to make effective use of limited farmland, rice and onions are grown alternately in the same place as "double cropping", but if this is repeated, the soil will eventually lose nutrients. That's where cow manure becomes a miracle cure. The rice straw produced by rice cultivation becomes cow feed and creates nutritious cow manure. This mutual support with the livestock industry keeps the farmland fertile and produces delicious, sweet onions. On this tour, you can actually harvest the delicious onions grown under this system while interacting with local residents. Afterwards, you will have the chance to try tasting sliced onions with onion dressing to really experience the sweetness of the onions you harvested! In addition, an official guide from Minami Awaji City will take you to spots packed with the characteristics of the region, such as the "nagayamon" house structure used by livestock farmers that supports this "recycling agriculture," the "onion hut" that was designed as a drying facility suited to the climate of Awaji Island, and the "irrigation ponds" that are the most densely populated in Japan as a solution to the water shortage that has long been a problem on the island. Make the most of what you can use, and continue to produce good things without waste. Experience the prototype of the SDGs that has been around for over 100 years. Experience Schedule Schedule Example (for a 10:00 start) 10:00 Meet at the parking lot (next to Oji Shrine, Kasumigo, Minami Awaji City) 10:00-10:40 Explanation of the Japanese Agricultural Heritage "Recycling Agriculture", tour of the surrounding area (visit the onion shed and cowshed while enjoying the scenery surrounded by nature) 10:40-11:20 Explanation of Awaji Island onions, onion harvesting experience 11:20-12:00 Tasting of freshly harvested onions (sliced or steamed whole), freshly squeezed milk ice cream

Why not go and discover the lost history of this town that flourished as a post town on the road during the Edo period? Kyohei Tamura, our guide for this Snow Country Retreat, majored in history in college and is a big fan of the Sengoku period. He fell in love with the history of the Mimata region. Although it is not famous, there are anecdotes that allow you to feel the breath of the people of the Edo period, and stories of the head of a family that lived in the village from its early days and continued to protect the oldest wakihonjin that still exists on the Mikuni Kaido road. Let's trace the history together, which is full of emotion that cannot be conveyed by words alone. Nowadays, the area is famous for its ski resorts, but the lives of the people who have been living here since the Edo period are the backbone of how it got to where it is today. There are things that become clear when you focus on the lives of the people who lived and continued to live strong lives despite being tossed about by the flow of history. It's not just skiing, but you can feel the charm of this mountain village. Although it is a "history retreat," no specialized knowledge is required. We will guide you not only through historical facts but also the feelings of the people at that time.

This is a workshop where you can experience making snowboards using thinned cedar wood. This project contributes to the SDGs by using unneeded thinned wood without waste. Snowboarding is a sport that combines skateboarding without bindings or edges, surfing, and snowboarding. The surface of the board is non-slip, so you can enjoy it easily with boots or snow shoes. What is a snowboard? Snowboards and snowtoys are a unique Japanese culture that was born from the idea of sliding across the snow with a wooden board. This two-day tour includes a snowboarding session to enjoy the satoyama terrain at the Sakegawa Eco Park campsite, which is surrounded by snowy satoyama, making a sample shaped snowboard, and a social gathering at a cottage in the eco park. Sakegawa Village is a snowy rural village with about 1.5m of snow even on the flat ground, and broadleaf satoyama spreads around the clear stream "Sakegawa" where salmon swim up. This year, Sakegawa Village's boarding friends who have enjoyed snowboarding and skateboarding in the past gathered together and established a volunteer group called the "Sakegawa Village Boarding Promotion Council" to enjoy the snowy satoyama terrain of Sakegawa Village with snowboards. The council aims to launch an original snowboard brand, and while learning from seniors who are leading the snowboard culture in the boarding industry, they are also holding activities such as snowboarding experience sessions at the village's snow festival. This tour starts at the Sakegawa Eco Park campsite, and includes a snowboarding session that makes use of the unique terrain of the snowy satoyama, making a sample shape of an original snowboard, and a boarding social gathering at a cottage in the evening. ~Experience flow~ [Day 1] 10:00 Let's try gliding down the park course and natural Satoyama course on a snowboard! 12:00 There is a restaurant in Sakegawa Village Eco Park. Enjoy your favorite lunch. (Actual cost) 13:00 Create your own snowboard at the original board making facility. 18:00 Sideboarding exchange meeting We will hold an exchange meeting that also serves as dinner. Let's have fun talking while eating local specialties! [Day 2] 9:00 Test riding with your own board Let's actually ride the board you made on the first day! * Test riding may not be possible depending on the progress of the production (dryness of the varnish, etc.). In that case, you will be asked to use the snowboard for the experience.

Winter has come to Yamagata again this year! Let's go on a snowshoe hike and snowboard ride to fully enjoy the abundant snow! ! A nature guide who conveys the joy of nature will accompany you and give a lecture on how to walk on snowshoes and ride on a snowboard, as well as the unique fun of winter. What is a snowboard? Snowboards and snowtoys are a unique Japanese culture that was born from the idea of sliding through the snow with a wooden board. These simple toys, which have no edges or soles and are coated with varnish or resin and have a non-slip surface where you place your feet, spread quickly throughout snowy countries, giving birth to creative shapers all over the country and are still spreading rapidly (from the BUDDHABLANK website). It is an easy-to-enjoy activity that does not have bindings or edges, and you just place your feet on the non-slip surface of the board and slide. It is similar to skateboarding and surfing, and one of its features is that it can be enjoyed easily with boots or snow boots! During the tour, we will also hold "Nature Games" using natural items. You'll have to wait until the day to find out what kind of games will be held! For a short break, we will also offer Nagai's original blend coffee and sweets. We start at 7am. The water between Iriomote Island and Yubu Island is shallow enough to walk across. Usually, we cross this section by buffalo cart, but this time we will walk across. After arriving on the island, we will have breakfast at Manta Beach while watching the sunrise and Kohama Island. After that, if we have time, we will have free time to explore the island, which is completely to our own liking. We will also have the opportunity to interact with "Rui-kun", the only model buffalo on the island, and take a commemorative photo. On the way back, we will ride a buffalo back to Iriomote Island.
