Plan description

Mashoku is a physical practice that explores the "space between" (aida) through physical contact. Drawing on elements of martial arts and contact improvisation, it emphasizes the movement and sensations that emerge from relationships, rather than confrontation or manipulation. Neither dance nor martial arts, it is a space for improvisational physical dialogue centered on touch. The practice begins with breathing and progresses through quiet observation of the current state of mind and body. Next, through posture and weight transfer, we establish a foundation for a resilient and secure body. From there, we engage in light touch and mutual transfer, treating touch not as a means of movement but as a gateway to perception. Mashoku does not aim for smooth movement or a beautiful appearance. We embrace the tension and hesitation that arise when we touch, listening closely to the sense of distance and shifts in center of gravity between us. The resulting movement emerges naturally from the relationship in each moment, rather than following a predetermined pattern. Experience, age, and physical ability are all welcome. For those with martial arts experience, this is a learning opportunity to "let go of technique," while for those with experience in dance or other artistic expression, it is a place to deepen "safe and trustful improvisation." Even those who are anxious about physical contact can participate with peace of mind, as the process progresses in stages. Mantouch is not a place to try to change the other person. It is a quiet, open time to respect what happens "between" you and the other person, and to savor the relationship itself.

Takezen

Buzen is a form of introspection and breathing work based on the martial arts perspective on the body. It places emphasis on adjusting your "state of being" before moving, and involves quietly observing the state of your mind and body through breathing. Rather than exerting force, it cultivates a calm and resilient body by noticing tension and habits and letting go of unnecessary force. While it is martial arts training, it is also a time for Japanese-style physical conditioning that is linked to meditation and self-care.

Natural Training

Natural Training is a physical work that awakens the natural movements that humans possess. It is not bound by set forms or repetitions, but rather restores the connection of the entire body through basic movements such as rolling, crawling, standing, and walking. Rather than focusing on training, it aims to create a body that can be used comfortably, and is suitable for people of all ages and athletic experience. It cultivates the wildness and flexibility that form the foundation for martial arts and everyday movements.

CI

CI is a form of exercise that explores improvisational movement born through physical contact. Rather than aiming to manipulate the other person or create a set form, participants move while sharing a sense of weight, flow, and distance. Building on the martial arts-like sense of safety and receiving, it fosters a relationship of trust and surrender. It is neither dance nor martial arts; it is an experience in which "the relationship itself becomes movement."
