Tanba ware is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. In a relaxed town with a traditional Japanese landscape, you will be directly taught by an active potter who has inherited traditional techniques. You can experience making authentic Tanba ware. It is a one-of-a-kind experience that will touch your heart. *The Six Ancient Kilns of Japan is a collective name for the six representative kilns (Echizen, Seto, Tokoname, Shigaraki, Tanba, and Bizen) that have continued to produce porcelain from the Middle Ages to the present day. They were named by Fujio Koyama, a researcher of ancient ceramics, around 1948, and were certified as "Japan Heritage" in 2017. (As an after-campaign for the Hyogo Destination Campaign, participants will receive a "small gift that can be used for travel"! *) *We will mail it to you at a later date.
You can actually go to the workshop of a currently active pottery potter, see how it works on a daily basis, and receive an explanation about Tamba ware from the pottery potter. During the demonstration, you can watch professional techniques.
You will actually create your work on an electric potter's wheel while receiving direct guidance from the potter. The potter will handle the drying, unglazing, and glazing processes, and the pottery will be delivered to your home by mail about two months later. (Shipping charges are required separately)
After the experience, we will introduce you to local restaurants and go shopping at ``Kiln Yokocho'', a gathering of approximately 50 potteries located in ``Suenosato'', a comprehensive cultural and recreational facility with the theme of Tanba ware. You can also enjoy it. The Hyogo Ceramic Art Museum, which focuses on ceramics, is also adjacent. (*Various fees are not included)
