Plan description

Tamba ware is one of Japan's six ancient kilns*. In a relaxed town where the original Japanese scenery spreads out, you can receive direct instruction from active pottery makers who have inherited traditional techniques. You can experience authentic Tamba ware. A unique experience that touches your heart. *Japan's Six Ancient Kilns is a general term for the six representative kilns (Echizen, Seto, Tokoname, Shigaraki, Tamba, and Bizen) that have continued to produce ceramics from the Middle Ages to the present day. It was named by Mr. Fujio Koyama, an ancient ceramics researcher, around 1945, and was designated as a "Japan Heritage" in 2017.

Pottery tour

You can actually go to the workshop of a currently active pottery potter, see how it works on a daily basis, and receive an explanation about Tamba ware from the pottery potter. During the demonstration, you can watch professional techniques.

Pottery experience (electric potter's wheel)

You will actually create your work on an electric potter's wheel while receiving direct guidance from the potter. The potter will handle the drying, unglazing, and glazing processes, and the pottery will be delivered to your home by mail about two months later. (Shipping charges are required separately)

There are many local lunch areas and sightseeing spots near the pottery.

After the experience, we will introduce you to local restaurants and go shopping at ``Kiln Yokocho'', a gathering of approximately 50 potteries located in ``Suenosato'', a comprehensive cultural and recreational facility with the theme of Tanba ware. You can also enjoy it. The Hyogo Ceramic Art Museum, which focuses on ceramics, is also adjacent. (*Various fees are not included)
