In this guided tour you will take a walk around Shibamata old downtown with traditional atmosphere and visit a dynamic fish market!
The Adachi Market is a great place to see various fresh seafood.
After visiting the fish market we will explore Shibamata area. This area's main features are its beautiful old-fashioned streets and historic buildings such as Yamamoto-tei and Shibamata Taishakuten.
Adachi Market is the only fish market in Tokyo, and is not crowded with tourists, so you can enjoy sightseeing at your own pace. Another attraction is the conversation with the people working at the market. Enjoy talking to the people at the market, and after your tour, enjoy fresh seafood at the cafe on the premises.
It is a 15-minute train ride from Senju-Ohashi Station in Shibamata. While admiring the bronze statue of Tora-san, famous for the movie "Otoko wa Tsurai yo," you can walk along the approach to Taishakuten Temple. On the 200m approach to Shibamata Taishakuten Temple, there are many long-established shops selling Japanese sweets, soba noodles, and folk crafts. There is also a river fish restaurant serving dishes such as eel and carp. At Taishakuten Temple, you can see a spectacular woodcarving gallery and a beautiful Japanese garden that looks beautiful from any angle.
Yamamototei is a building that combines Western architecture with the Japanese Shoin-zukuri style. The Japanese garden with a beautiful waterfall is highly regarded overseas. At the end of the tour, you will take a stroll along the banks of the Edogawa River while looking at the Skytree in the distance.
