I moved from Osaka to Ikuchijima in 2010, drawn to its charms. It all started with an encounter with a hunter on the island. I didn't have any desire to hunt wild boars; I simply wanted to learn about the local nature, so I accompanied him to the mountains. Once you know it, you'll realize that grass can be used as a medicinal herb, you can tell when and where delicious forest delicacies are available, and by looking at footprints, you can predict how far the animal is and whether it's male or female. Protecting their playground is a given, and they also work to maintain the environment. Seeing them like this, I was moved, and thought, "This is what life is all about!" That's what I've been doing ever since. I'll share the world I've seen over the course of 13 years of hunting. By engaging with nature with the right perspective and facing life, you'll have the opportunity to rethink your own way of life and gain new strength.
