The Yuri Kogen Railway Chokai Sanroku Line stretches 23.0 km from Ugo-Honjo Station to Yajima Station in Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, and was established in 1985 as a third-sector company that took over the former Japanese National Railways Yajima Line. The "Obako" train runs along the Koyoshi River through the beautiful rice fields of Akita's rice-producing Yuri region, gazing up at Mount Chokai, one of the most famous mountains in the Tohoku region, towering over the border between Akita and Yamagata prefectures. (The name "Obako" was chosen through a public contest before the line opened.) Supported by the local community, the Yuri Kogen Railway Chokai Sanroku Line will celebrate its 40th anniversary on October 1, 2025.
