Hello to all of you who are visiting Activity Japan, it's cold and the stoop is spurring. I want to be a cat (by Spitz). When it's cold, I want to go to a warm place, and if I can't, I want to stay in a warm room and eat a pot. However, the 2019 Shishimaru is a bit different from the past, and I am investigating whether there is an activity that you can enjoy going to a colder place in the cold winter with the idea of eating hot ramen in the hot summer. .. I found "Icicle trekking" when I was looking for something other than skiing or snowboarding because my knees hurt. The icefall trekking tour is limited to a few weeks from January to February, when the temperature is the coldest in winter, after which the ice collapses and melts away, which is a very valuable experience. An icefall is a state in which a waterfall freezes and becomes an icicle. Trekking on a snowy road for about 3 hours one way aiming for an icicle is quite an amount of exercise, and it seems to hurt your knees as much as snowboarding. But I definitely want to worship the wonderful scenery live ... Is "the most popular winter activity" true?
[Nikko Unryu Valley] Popular winter NO, 1 activity Icefall tour
Unryu Valley at the foot of Mt. Memine, Nikko Omotesando Mountain Range. A limited-time adventure icefall tour to trek through the world of snow and ice! Even in the first snowy mountains, it is safe and secure with the support of a veteran guide. Wear a crampon helmet and aim for an icefall with complete winter equipment. A breathtaking view of the ice, such as a huge icicle and an ice waterfall over 100m wide
<Basic information>
Minimum number of people: 2 people
Number of people who can make a reservation: 1 to 14 people
Meeting place: In front of Nippon Rent-A-Car at Tobu Nikko Station
Price: 8,500 yen
Included in price: Helmet, crampons, stock, insurance
Clothes / belongings: Outerwear with high cold and waterproof throat winter clothes (jacket, pants), middle clothes (fleece, etc.) Underwear, socks (thick, quick-drying, heat-retaining), hat, gloves (waterproof) High-quality ski gloves, etc.), spats, winter shoes (trekking shoes, etc., climbing shoes, boots are prohibited because they are dangerous), down jackets, etc.
The icefall in the Unryu Valley of this plan is huge with a head of 120m and a width of 100m, and the scenery is a masterpiece. The place, also known as the "Unexplored Region of Nikko," will give you a mysterious atmosphere. Just looking at the pictures is really a magnificent view ...! I hate the cold, but I still want to see this. It seems to be a popular spot for ice climbers who climb the ice wall. In addition to Nikko, it seems to be popular to see the icefall of Iori Falls through a trekking course around the grasslands that are rumored to "go to Nikko in winter and not go to Senjogahara".
You can only rent a helmet, crampons, and stock (rental boots are available for a fee) that you wear during the experience, so you have to prepare the equipment yourself. In addition to the above, it seems better to bring neck warmers, goggles, sunscreen, lip balm, etc. The reflection of the snow is not perfect, so it's really dazzling and your eyes will be damaged, and the skin of your face will be turned over by sunburn, so be sure to bring it with you if you are worried. Through various investigations, I also got information that it would be nice to have a tool called snowshoes for hiking in the winter mountains, a non-slip attached to shoes called chain spikes, a cane called ice ax, or a stick to climb with ice. However, I wonder if the guide will guide you to routes that are not necessary for this plan.
Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, Nikkosan Rinnoji Temple and its surroundings are registered as World Heritage Sites. Not only are there 9 national treasure buildings and 94 important cultural property buildings, but the surrounding natural environment is also very spectacular. There is a hideaway power spot, Takinoo Shrine, near the Unryu Valley in this plan. You can try your luck by throwing pebbles through the round hole at the top of the torii gate, there is a matchmaking bamboo grass that wishes for a good match, and there is a sacred tree called "Takio Sanbonsugi". After enjoying the world of ice, I would like to take a walk along the forest road and stop by if I am still feeling well. I wish I hadn't hurt my knees and remained energetic after starting early in the morning and continuing to walk in the snowy mountains. If my knee hurts, I would like to jump into the hot springs. This year's event will be held for a short time, so if you are interested, please check it out as soon as possible.
