Decided for September! We have started researching activities you would like to try on your trip to Ishigaki Island! Part 5 is to try making your own Shisa, a classic Okinawa souvenir!

Originally, I was looking for a marine sports activity to enjoy the sea of Ishigaki Island, but in this blog, I will post about a recommended plan for a "Shisa making experience" that I wanted to try once when I went to Okinawa. As a souvenir, I tend to buy a Shisa made by a professional craftsman, and I think that's fine, but if you want to make memories from the making, you want to participate in an experience plan where you can make your own Shisa and a Shisa making class. I looked at various plans, but the plan held by "Kabira Yaki Rinka" in Ishigaki Island that I will introduce this time seems to be reasonably priced and allows you to enjoy an authentic Shisa making experience, so I picked it as a candidate.

Decided for September! We have started researching activities you would like to experience on a trip to Ishigaki Island! Part 4 is a special edition: Okinawa culture experience. Ride a "Sabani" and feel like you're at the sea!

Sabani (shark boat) is a wooden fishing boat that has been passed down since ancient times in the Ryukyu Islands. Naturally, engine-powered boats are the norm in modern times, but the experience plan I found this time seems to allow you to experience a Sabani, which is traditionally paddled by wind and human power. It's truly an Okinawan cultural experience, an umichu (fisherman) experience! Moreover, this plan can be participated in by children from 0 years old, so it's an activity on Ishigaki Island that I'm thinking of booking with my 3-year-old son, as it can be enjoyed by him. More information can be found below.

Decided for September! We have started researching the activities we want to experience on our trip to Ishigaki Island! Number three is "SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board)".

It seems that you can also reserve a set plan that includes both SUP (stand up paddle board) and BBQ, so if you want to enjoy dinner as well, I recommend that. This is perfect for families like mine, and also for couples' dates and girls' trips. Have fun in the ocean of Ishigaki Island during the day, and then have a BBQ dinner in a stylish location like glamping in the evening. There are probably fewer restaurants compared to Naha and the main island areas, so using this plan to enjoy the outdoors all day long on Ishigaki Island would be a great trip.

Decided for September! I started researching activities I want to try on my trip to Ishigaki Island! The second one is sea turtle diving.

The best part of diving in Ishigaki Island is being able to swim with sea turtles. This is heavily promoted in travel magazines and websites, and I feel like it's now a must-do when traveling to Ishigaki Island (lol). What's more, all the information you look at also mentions that you can land on a spot called "Phantom Island," which only appears at low tide, making this a fantastic plan that's sure to be very satisfying, as it covers all of Ishigaki Island's marine spots. Apparently, Phantom Island is surrounded by emerald green seas as far as the eye can see in 360 degrees, and has a heavenly view. With that said, there's no way you can't go!!

Decided for September! We've started researching the activities we want to experience on our trip to Ishigaki Island! This is Part 1.

Just as we had decided that our family's destination would be Ishigaki Island, Activity Japan updated their "2018 Ishigaki Island Popular Activity Ranking (Latest Edition)," so we decided to check it out first! Apparently, the popularity of Okinawa's remote islands, such as Ishigaki Island, Miyako Island, and Iriomote Island, has skyrocketed this year. Looking at the rankings, it seems that the classic marine activity, snorkeling, is very popular. The emerald green ocean is probably even more beautiful than on the main island. I'm envious. SUP (stand up paddle boarding) and canoeing, kayaking, and sea kayaking in the mangrove forest also look fun, but will we be able to find a plan that's suitable for children from 3 years old? Below is the ranking of Ishigaki Island's most popular activities! There are a wide variety of activities that will allow you to fully enjoy the great outdoors. Amazing!

Okinawa is a special place because it is not an easy place to go! Okinawa is a place with perpetual summer. Iriomote Island is the largest island in the Yaeyama Islands. Experience a two-person sea kayak on Chichijima Island in the Ogasawara Islands with the "John Genie Challenge"!

This tour was a two-seater sea kayak, so I thought it might not be suitable for me, who usually travels alone, but paddling a kayak seems very tiring, so I thought it would be better to have a two-seater so I could take a break when my arms hurt, since I'm not confident in my physical strength. Of course, the rental fee is included in the plan, so you can experience it empty-handed. However, you have to find someone to join you. I've looked up kayaks before, so I'll introduce them here again.

Swimming on a deserted island in Okinawa! Nagannu Island Landing Tour from Naha!

It is an uninhabited island located about 15km west of the main island of Okinawa, and is the entrance to the Kerama Islands, which were designated a national park in 2014. The Kerama Islands are truly my favorite area! Even though they are uninhabited islands, they are equipped with restaurants, flush toilets, showers, and changing rooms, and there are also plenty of accommodation facilities such as cottages. The three islands of Nagannu Island, Kamiyama Island, and Kuefu Island are also called Chibishi Atoll in the local dialect. An atoll is a coral reef formed in a ring shape, as the name suggests. The island is characterized by pure white sand beaches made of coral fragments, and you can enjoy marine sports such as snorkeling and diving on the beautiful beach with outstanding transparency in the sea. It is easily accessible, about 20 minutes by high-speed boat from Tomarin, and is a popular tourist destination for families with small children.

If you come to Ishigaki Island, you're missing out if you don't dive! Swim into a beautiful and mysterious world of spectacular views♪

The most recommended beautiful scenic spot is Kabira Bay, which has been selected as one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan. It is a representative spot that is featured on almost all the covers of Ishigaki Island brochures and other materials, and what's more, its beauty has been recognized worldwide and it has been awarded three stars in the Michelin Guide. The emerald green sea that continues on forever. Green islands dotted here and there, a relaxing landscape with glass-bottom boats and kayaks slowly sailing along. The sound of the waves that seem to be rumbling to soothe you. It is said to be a wonderful area where you will never get bored no matter how many times you go to enjoy these things, and you will lose track of time. So, this time we will introduce a snorkeling tour plan that you can experience in Kabira Bay, which is highly rated by travelers.

Take a leisurely ride on a water buffalo cart! Introducing an efficient way to tour Okinawa's remote island spots

The plan we will introduce this time is the "Iriomote, Yufu, Taketomi 3 Island Tour" guided by "Ishigakijima Dream Tourism". Iriomote, Yufu, and Taketomi are islands that belong to the Yaeyama Islands, and are extremely popular spots for tourism in Okinawa. This plan is a greedy course that allows you to efficiently tour the three islands and see a lot of scenery. By simply joining this tour, you can experience Instagram-worthy scenery, never-before-experienced vehicles, and a laid-back island atmosphere, all in one day.

Obtaining a PADI Open Water Diver License on Okinawa's main island. What is a "C Card"?

The official name is Certification Card. It is a certificate that proves that you have acquired knowledge and skills (instruction standards). There are several types, such as Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver, depending on the diver's rank and technique. If you don't dive for a while, your skills will deteriorate, so it is recommended that you take a course to refresh your knowledge. Introductory level courses teach the knowledge and skills necessary to dive with a buddy (an instructor, staff member, or other diving partner) during the day in calm sea conditions at a depth of 18m or less.

The perfect Okinawa souvenir! Make your own cute Shisa and take home some great memories!

Shisa are legendary beast statues that are often seen in Okinawa. They are installed on the gates and roofs of buildings, on hills in villages, etc., and are meant to ward off evil spirits that bring misfortune to houses, people, and villages. They are often installed on the roof, but recently it is common to see shisa installed at the entrances of hotels and souvenir shops. In other words, shisa are the perfect item that everyone recognizes as an "Okinawa souvenir," and by making them by hand, you can experience the culture and customs. We would like to introduce you to Sesokojima Maimai Kobo, where you can attend to handmade shisa.

Ride a buggy through the forests of Yanbaru, Okinawa! Enjoy the charm of this rich natural environment to the fullest!

This is a special off-road course within a facility built in the Yanbaru forest in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture, where you can drive a four-wheeled buggy and enjoy a sense of attraction while interacting with nature. Of course, even if you have never ridden a buggy and don't know how to drive, you can practice with a guide at the practice area, so even beginners can feel at ease. The speed of the buggy can be changed in the settings, so you can drive slowly and safely without being scared.

I've always wanted to go to Kumejima! Here are the access methods, sightseeing, hotels, and recommended plans.

This time, I looked into Kumejima, an island in Okinawa Prefecture that I've wanted to visit but haven't been able to yet. Kumejima is located in the East China Sea, about 100km west of Okinawa's main island. It is a large island that ranks alongside Miyakojima and Ishigakijima as a popular island, and has been called the most beautiful in the Ryukyu Islands. There are several settlements, and you can enjoy typical Okinawan scenery such as red-tiled buildings and sugarcane fields. A barrier reef (a coral reef that acts as a breakwater to protect the land from waves) has developed around the island.

Enjoy the starry sky at night with beach night snorkeling in Miyakojima, Okinawa!

Miyakojima has many attractive beaches such as Yonaha Maehama Beach, Yoshino Beach, Aragusuku Beach, Sunayama Beach, Miyako Sunset Beach, and Shigira Beach, but I'm curious about where I can snorkel. Looking at the location of the shop, it's near Painagama Beach. A little bit of trivia about Painagama Beach is that there is a Coco Store nearby so you can easily buy a cold beer and it's also a great place to just laze around at night. There is no specific schedule, and there is no meeting place, but they will pick you up at your accommodation, so I wonder if they will go to a good spot nearby. My wish is to snorkel in a place that only locals know about.

The setting of "Churasan"! Enjoy a snorkeling experience on the remote island of Kohama, Okinawa!

Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture is of course full of charms in itself, but you can also go to various other remote islands from Ishigaki Port. I have been to Taketomi Island, Kuroshima Island, Hateruma Island, and Hatoma Island, and the beaches on each island had their own charms and were fun. I have a hard time deciding where to go every year because I want to go to those islands again and I also want to go to islands I have never been to. This time, I looked into Kohama Island, which I have never been to.

No license required! We investigated trial diving in Yonaguni Island, Okinawa, which has high reviews!

There are several diving shops on Yonaguni Island, but this one had the best reviews on a certain website. I was a beginner who had only dived once, so I was a little worried, but the plan description said that an experienced guide would dive one-on-one from start to finish, so I felt at ease. It's really reassuring to have a staff member with you one-on-one. The tour starts with practice diving in shallow waters → boat diving → the main event: diving at the ruins (ruin experience diving course).
