At the workshop, you'll learn about the history of Nishijin-ori and the techniques of its artisans while touching the actual weaving tools used. You'll also get a close-up tour of the jacquard loom, where you'll experience the craftsmanship and power of the loom. During the hand weaving experience, you'll weave a table center approximately 20cm x 30cm on a special hand loom. The texture changes depending on the strength of the weave and the tension of the weft thread, creating a fascinating experience that will leave you lost in time. Uchikake is a costume that you only have the opportunity to wear on important days in life such as weddings, and is a costume that Japanese women long for. It is also very expensive and has high artistic value compared to normal kimonos, and our company has uchikake worth more than 1 million yen. As we have been involved in weddings for many years, we have more than 60 such precious uchikake.
