"Ko-Iga" is the highest peak of pottery in history, known as "exceptional beauty" in the world of tea ceremony, mainly during the Sengoku period, when Sen no Rikyu, Oda Nobunaga, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi were active, and the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Experience Awaji Iga making, a reproduction of the Ko-Iga making used in tea ceremony at that time, with one-on-one guidance from a craftsman who hand-made the largest six-tiered climbing kiln in Japan. Ko-Iga is fired at the world's highest firing temperature of 1400℃ for several days, which is unparalleled in the world, so the shape is distorted and sometimes it breaks when firewood is repeatedly hit against it, but the absolute presence and scenery that surpasses this are known as exceptional beauty. (*250℃-450℃ in a bonfire, 1500℃ in a blast furnace) Awaji Iga aims to revive Ko-Iga and values the invisible process and value, so it does not use modern tools such as burners and thermometers, or glazes that glassify the surface. Mount Koya, which spreads out in a mountain basin surrounded by peaks at an altitude of about 1,000m, is a sacred place of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai 1,200 years ago. This plan involves climbing together to the top of Benten-dake, the watershed of Mount Koya, and performing a purification and purification prayer in front of the shrine. Nokogiriyama is known as a lesser known mountain on the Boso Peninsula. With its jagged ridgeline resembling the teeth of a saw, and the remains of the quarry where Boso stone was quarried by the stone-cutting industry until the Showa era, it looks like an abandoned building, and this otherworldly space that appears in the middle of nature has become popular. On this tour, you will pass through the streets of Kanaya, which once flourished as a stone-cutting industry, and climb the "Sharikko Road," a road that once transported quarried stone, with a guide. [Snow Country & Rice Grocery/Straw Crafts in Niigata Prefecture] Niigata Prefecture has had a long history of rice cultivation, and various straw crafts using rice straw have been actively carried out. Until 70 to 80 years ago, during the snowy winter months, families made zori sandals using rice straw to earn an income. Nowadays, craftsmen using straw are very rare, and it is rare to see crafts using straw. This kind of experience of actually making sandals has become a rarity, but seeing how the shoes are made by hand in a blink of an eye is a masterpiece. [What you can do in this experience] In this program, you will make such a sandal with a local straw craftsman. You can choose whichever you like, the sandals made from rice straw or the cloth sandals made from colorful cloth. You can choose your favorite cloth for the thongs and cloth sandals from the available cloths, so you can create your own stylish sandals by combining them. The sandals you make can be worn as sandals at the river or the sea in the summer, or you can use them as slippers at home or as interior decoration. How about making an original handmade sandal to commemorate your trip? *Cloth sandals are optional and cost an additional 500 yen. *Only Japanese and English are supported.
