Plan description

Nokogiriyama is known as a lesser known mountain on the Boso Peninsula. With its jagged ridgeline resembling the teeth of a saw, and the remains of the quarry where Boso stone was quarried by the stone-cutting industry until the Showa era, it looks like an abandoned building, and this otherworldly space that appears in the middle of nature has become popular. On this tour, you will pass through the streets of Kanaya, which once flourished as a stone-cutting industry, and climb the "Sharikko Road," a road that once transported quarried stone, with a guide. While enjoying the climb, which is low above sea level but has a large elevation difference, you will feel the breath of the craftsmen of the time, and trace the history of how Boso stone supported Japan's modernization and declined over time.

The observation deck offers a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji and Tokyo Bay!

From the observation deck you can get a panoramic view of Tokyo Bay, and if the weather is good you can see the Miura Peninsula and Mt. Fuji on the opposite shore.

Insect repellent spray is also effective. The mountain trails on Mt. Nokogiri include unstable mountain paths and steep stairs. Please wear athletic shoes such as hiking boots or sneakers, and comfortable clothing suitable for low mountain hikes. We recommend that you carry a backpack to keep your hands free. If you have hiking equipment such as walking poles, it is also convenient to use them.

Plan attractions

Wheeled road The Sharikido road was once used to transport "Boshu stone" quarried from Mt. Nokogiri down to the foot of the mountain, and is one of the precious industrial heritage sites. We will climb this road and head towards the summit.

Kannon Cave The Kannon Cave looks like a relic from a fantasy world. This mysterious shape was created by the pursuit of high-quality stone materials and excavation. It is said that the stepped excavation was left behind to prevent collapse. A small Kannon statue is carved into the wall, which is the origin of the name "Kannon Cave".

Observation deck overlooking Tokyo Bay A popular observation deck with a 360-degree panoramic view of Tokyo Bay below. It is also equipped with benches, making it a great place to take a break. On a clear day, you can see Kurihama and Mt. Fuji on the opposite shore.

Rock Stage Iwabutai is the remains of the last quarry that continued quarrying until 1985, and here you can observe the changes that have come with mechanization of work.

Hyakushaku Kannon This large Kannon statue, measuring approximately 30 meters in length, was carved into the rock face of a quarry near the summit in 1966 over a period of six years.

Peek into Hell This is a thrilling photo spot where you can look down from the tip of a wall that remains in the air. The recommended angle to take the photo is from the Ruriko Observatory opposite.
