Plan description

This hands-on crafting experience uses real tile clay. We use the same clay used to make tiles on Awaji Island. By experiencing the clay molding process, you can experience the techniques and materials used in tile making that are normally invisible. Even beginners and children can participate with confidence. Ridge tiles (munegawara) are used at the top of roofs and have protected Japanese houses. In this experience, you will touch the real tile clay used to make ridge tiles and try shaping them into tile objects, lampshades, pot covers, and more. This experience allows you to learn about the materials and functions used in tile making that you don't normally see, while also creating works that can be enjoyed as interior décor.

Experience craftsmanship with clay roof tiles, a unique experience only available on the go

Using real clay from Awaji Island, you can experience the texture and weight of the material as you create. This is an experience that can only be had in tourist spots.

We will create an original tile object using Awaji tiles.

The end result will be an Awaji tile object, lampshade, or pot cover that is expressive 365 days a year. Not only will it serve as a memento of your trip, but it will also be useful as home decor.

Finishing and shipping later for peace of mind

After making your piece, it will be dried and fired in the workshop, and the finished product will be mailed to your home at a later date, so you can continue sightseeing empty-handed.
