Let's make and eat traditional Japanese sweets in the cafe space at the back of an elegant store in the historical town of Kawajiri! A craftsman who was awarded the [Modern Master Craftsman] award in 2020 will carefully and kindly teach you how to make Japanese sweets. Demonstration first! I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do. Next, let's actually make them (2 pieces). Japanese sweets that are fun to look at and make, such as seasonal flowers and fruits. At the end, enjoy it with matcha. This is a popular experience not only for Japanese customers but also for foreign customers. Interpretation in English (beginner level) and Spanish (intermediate level) is also available. We will give you the Japanese sweets you made during the demonstration as souvenirs.

The current chairman, Kazuki Kitagawa, who was awarded as a [Contemporary Master Craftsman] (*one with outstanding technology) selected by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2024, will be in charge. I will answer anything in an easy-to-understand manner, from the history of sweets to trivia about ingredients. You might even get to see an amazing Japanese sweets demonstration! ?

Wrapping the bean paste, which is an important technique in Japanese sweets, is quite difficult when you try it, but I will teach you carefully and kindly, so you will be fine. It's a lot of fun to see how the shape is gradually completed in a number of steps. You can eat the sweets you made on the spot or take them home. Now, if you can, let's have matcha! !

Kawajiri is a quiet town, but it used to be a port town that prospered as a city of water thanks to water transportation, so much so that it even traded with China. It feels good to take a walk through the old townscape where knives and sake breweries gather.
