Tour Code: A1-RT1A-000120 Departing from Kumamoto City! Experience the charms of Amakusa on this bus trip! This great value package includes a round-trip bus ticket on the "Rapid Amakusa" between Kumamoto City and Hondo Bus Center, plus a guided sightseeing bus ride on the "Amakusa Tour Bus." This tour visits the Oe-Sakitsu Church, a symbol of Amakusa's Christian culture (Sakitsu Village in Amakusa), a component of the World Heritage Site "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region," as well as the museum, which preserves the history of Christianity. The Miyajidake Scarecrow Village Roadside Station, located within the course, is a roadside station repurposed from the former Miyajidake Elementary School, the first of its kind in Western Japan! Lunch is available at the Scarecrow Village Roadside Station Restaurant. (Lunch will be served at Amuri on days when the site is closed: the first and third Wednesdays.)
The Amakusa Tour Bus will be accompanied by a guide. *The Rapid Amakusa bus between Kumamoto City and Hondo Bus Center will not be accompanied by a guide or tour conductor.
We will visit Oe Sakitsu Church, a symbol of Amakusa's Christian culture and a museum that preserves the history of Christianity. Amakusa Collegio Museum: This museum displays numerous materials related to Christianity and Nanban culture that spread to Amakusa. Must-sees include a bamboo pipe organ, a replica of the Gutenberg printing press, and a model of a Nanban ship. The museum also houses the World Peace Ambassador Doll Museum. Amakusa Sakitsu Village: Amakusa Sakitsu Village was registered as a World Heritage Site in July 2018. Its iconic Sakitsu Church is a Gothic-style church built in 1934 during the reign of Father Halb. Minatoya Sakitsu Museum showcases the historical value of Sakitsu Village and exhibits devotional implements used by hidden Christians. [Oe Church] This white church was built in 1933 by Father Garnier in cooperation with local believers. [Amakusa Rosary Museum] It displays artifacts and materials that convey the lives, faith, and culture of hidden Christians. *The Collegio Museum is closed on Thursdays, and the Rosary Museum is closed on Wednesdays (if either falls on a public holiday, it will be closed the following day).
・Tours may be canceled at short notice due to church events. In such cases, the tour will be omitted or you will be sightseeing from the bus window. (Churches are places where believers pray. Please visit with discretion.) ・If the facility is closed, the tour time before and after will be longer. ・A guide will accompany you to each spot on the Amakusa Sightseeing Bus. If you would like to tour independently, please ask the guide directly on the day. However, please be sure to return to the bus before departure time. ・Lunch is not included. Lunch time is reserved, so please take it yourself.
