In this experience, you will visit Grandma Eiko's kitchen and learn to prepare the local delicacy of Hachijojima,'shimazushi' (island sushi). It differs from regular sushi by the specific local fish used and by the fact that people on the island prefer to put mustard instead of wasabi. Grandma Eiko will show you how to make tempura from'ashitaba', a famous healthy plant indigenous to Hachijojoma, as well as fried fish using the island's very best flying fish.
Meet Grandma Eiko, the local star and most hospitable host on Hachijojima Island.She offers a glimpse into the simple lifestyle of local people. Her warm hospitality is highly valued by her guests.
