Wakkanai's first tourist guide service, located right in front of Russia, focuses on the town's history, its prosperity as a border town, its relationship with Russia, and the town's history. In these days when the history that has been passed down over the years is gradually fading away, Saudade plays a role in passing on and passing on events from the past, and works with the desire to help tourists get to know Wakkanai in depth.
Until now, there have been no paid tour guide jobs in Wakkanai. There are some guides who work in the Wakkanai area, but the work is done by people from other areas. We are working to convey the history and culture of the region, which is the origin of tour guides, and to pass on the history of the region to future generations. We also believe that by helping tourists get to know the city of Wakkanai a little more deeply, tourism can be more enjoyable and profound.
In the winter, the northern part of Hokkaido transforms into a harsh region, often referred to as an isolated island. For this reason, it is customary for many tourist facilities and sightseeing spots to temporarily cease operations in the fall and resume preparations for spring. However, with the number of tourists visiting the area increasing, albeit in small numbers, it can be a boring trip if the facilities are closed or there are no places to enjoy. We offer tourists activities and sightseeing that can only be enjoyed locally.
Usually, guidebooks and the like only provide an outline to make it easier for a wide range of people to understand, and most of the story is omitted. We will tell you those hidden stories. We will deliver real stories that can only be realized through small group conversations.

The Wakkanai Soya region is a border town with Sakhalin (Russia), and has played a very important role in Japanese history. Knowing a little about it will make your visit to Wakkanai even more interesting! We will tell you many things that are not included in guidebooks, and will share with you the unknown charms of the Wakkanai Soya region.

Hello everyone, I'm Kura, the representative of Saudade. Wakkanai is a border town that has prospered mainly through fishing, but due to the 200-mile limit and its relationship with Russia, the town has gradually lost its vitality. It felt as though historical buildings and stories were gradually fading away. We named our business Saudade, which means "nostalgia for what has been lost" in Portuguese, with the hope of helping tourists learn more about Wakkanai and passing on its history to younger generations. While history is often perceived as a stuffy subject, we aim to be a history guide that is fun and entertaining. We also plan winter activities and other activities from time to time, so we look forward to your participation.
