Generally, Japanese macaques are said to be aggressive creatures that value hierarchy, with the boss monkey at the center. However, the wild Japanese macaques that come to the Awaji Monkey Center are seen to behave in a gentle manner, supporting weaker monkeys. These monkeys are called "Awaji Monkeys." This is a healing experience, where you can listen to the center staff talk about the ecology of the monkeys that live in a gentle society, learn about the Awaji monkeys, and feed and observe them. This is the only place where you can take a commemorative photo of yourself surrounded by monkeys! The Japanese macaques that come to the Awaji Island Monkey Center live in groups of about 350. These wild Japanese macaques come from the mountains around 9am, spend the day near the feeding area, and return to the mountains in the evening. The monkeys here are very docile and gentle, with a high level of tolerance, and this characteristic is very rare, so they are called "Awaji Monkeys." After listening to a talk by the staff who run the center about the characteristics of the Awaji monkeys and how to be the leader of this group, you need to be kind as well as strong, you can enter a building specifically for feeding and feed the monkeys outside, a unique feeding experience. (Additional fee: 200 yen per time) You can take a commemorative photo in the middle of a group of monkeys thanks to the feeding points of the center staff and the kindness of the Awaji monkeys, and you can't experience this unless you come here. If you scatter food in the shape of letters, the monkeys that eat the food will also form the letters, a unique sight that only the monkeys here can see. (A panel is posted on site) If you want to observe the Awaji monkeys to your heart's content, you can enter the park before the experience time.

Visit the Yura Fisheries Cooperative Association's unique fish auction with a professional fisherman and broker who also supplies fish to famous fish markets such as Toyosu Market, high-end restaurants, and Michelin-starred restaurants. Experience the lively fishing town of Yura Port, a natural harbor with the largest variety of fish landed on Awaji Island. Yura Port is located in the exact center of the eastern side of Awaji Island. With the Kitan Strait stretching out before it and a wide fishing ground stretching from Osaka Bay to the Pacific Ocean, Yura Port is known as a natural harbor, and in addition to high-end fish such as sea bream and conger eel, about 150 types of fresh seafood are landed each season. This time, you will sneak into the Yura Fisheries Cooperative Association auction, which is usually only open to those involved, together with a professional fisherman who also supplies fish to markets and high-end restaurants nationwide. This is a valuable private tour experience that is held once a day and is limited to a maximum of four people. You can watch the auction right next to the fishermen, have them guide you around the fishing port, and enjoy the atmosphere of the local fishing town, with the people working energetically at Yura Port. The fishermen instantly select the fish, quickly write the purchase price in chalk on palm-sized rectangular plates, and throw them one after another into a designated box-like area, where the person inside the box wins the bid to the highest bidder. This is a unique system of the Yura Fisheries Cooperative Association. It only takes a few tens of seconds, but you can see the tension and speed of the professional scene with your own eyes. This process is repeated over and over, and once again the fish are selected, the price is decided, and the bill is thrown in. During this time, fresh fish are brought in one after another from the boats docked at the port. This auction continues for about an hour. Among them, there are "Onishi" who have the skills of a master craftsman who draws a blueprint in his head while looking at the drawing with his own eyes without using blueprints or molds, and finishes it only with the sense of his fingertips and a handmade spatula. You can make a one-of-a-kind oni tile by learning from an "Onishi" how to make oni tile by hand using "name-do" soil that is more than 2 million years old. Awaji Island is one of the three major production areas of tiles in Japan, and is the number one producer of smoked tiles that shine with "silver". Tiles have a history of more than 1400 years, and tile making has been going on in Awaji Island for more than 400 years. Moreover, the soil used for Awaji tiles is still more than 2 million years old, and the very fine particles of "name-do" are used to create smoked tiles that shine with a beautiful silver color by baking (smoking) them in a kiln. In Japan, onigawara tiles have been used to decorate roofs as a talisman since ancient times. Even today, these onigawara tiles are carefully handcrafted by oni-shi (demon craftsmen) without the use of machines. Normally, you don't get to see onigawara tiles being made, but in this experience, you can watch the onigawara craftsmen's skills up close and make onigawara tiles together. Since this experience is limited to one group, you can make onigawara tiles without worrying about other people. If you have any questions or questions about how to make them, you can ask the onigawara maker at any time, and it is an experience where you can experience traditional techniques in a private atmosphere. [Procedure] 1. Draw a rough sketch of the image (you can also bring a draft with you) 2. Decide on the design of the onigawara tile 3. Together with the onigawara maker, use tile clay (nametsu) to create a rough shape 4. Let it cure (eat lunch (each person) during this time) 5. Finish the fine details using a spatula and your fingertips 6. Completed (you can also take a commemorative photo with the onigawara maker) *The work will then be carefully dried and fired and delivered in about two months. *For lunch, you can enjoy Awaji Island's specialty "Kawara-yaki" at the facility (additional charge required).
