Thorough calligraphy instruction Our calligraphy artists will teach you the basics of calligraphy in a gentle and careful manner. Even beginners can improve their skills by one level.

Create your Japanese name. Madara will choose kanji characters that bring good luck from the pronunciation of the English name and create a Japanese name. (The meaning of the kanji in the image: It means that you will be a person who can achieve the best results in everything, especially in important matters.)

Create your own Japanese name scroll. In the second part of the activity, Madara will use the art of calligraphy to create a scroll of calligraphy art using the kanji names he has created.

Enjoy Japanese sweets and tea. You can spend a pleasant time drinking tea and eating Japanese sweets.

You can learn about the history of kanji. This is an intellectual experience to learn about Japan. This video will introduce you to the kanji culture that is indispensable to the history of Asia.

Have a first-time experience. The Japanese way of holding a brush. The experience of grinding ink for calligraphy and turning it into liquid ink. The smell, feel and sound of the ink all become cherished experiences and memories.

Demonstration We will demonstrate how to use the brush. It's not easy, but you can practice it over and over again. Let's have fun writing.

You can get something unique and one of a kind! We will create a one-of-a-kind original item with your name printed in kanji. With this plan, you can choose one of three items: a tote bag, a T-shirt, or a hand towel. You can also change the tote bag to a zippered one by paying an additional fee on-site.

Design a mottled ink painting art. Madara is also a sumi-e artist. He has been drawing since he was a child, and when he started learning calligraphy, he also started to teach himself sumi-e. You can choose your favorite sumi-e from the several types of sumi-e that Madara has drawn and incorporate them into your design.

There are many different kinds of ink paintings. There are several types of Madara's original ink paintings that can be used on tote bags, T-shirts, and hand towels. The images show only a few of the ink paintings. Please visit the site to see the other paintings.

You can also make souvenirs! We will also create souvenirs for your friends and family. These will be special souvenirs that are not sold anywhere else. Since we will create them in the name of your friend or family, it will definitely be a surprise souvenir. If you create a souvenir, we can give you a discount. For details, please contact our staff on the day. If you would like to receive the product on the day of the event, your T-shirt (or tote bag) will be completed by around 16:00 after the workshop ends. If you would like to take it home on the day, you can pick it up at Madara Atelier, which is a 2-minute walk from the north exit of Hiratsuka Station. We can also deliver it to your hotel by courier at a later date.

There are lots of delicious things to eat around Hiratsuka Station! The calligraphy activity will end at 12:00. While you wait for your T-shirt and tote bag to be completed and collected at 16:00, why not take a stroll around Hiratsuka and enjoy a delicious lunch? You're sure to find something fun!

Take a 1km walk to the sea in Hiratsuka. While waiting for your T-shirt and tote bag to be completed and collected at 4:00 p.m., you can also go to the beach in Hiratsuka. If the weather is good, you can see Mt. Fuji, and it feels like you've entered the world of ukiyo-e.

Calligraphy Artist Group Self-Introduction I started calligraphy when I was five years old. I incorporated traditional Japanese graphology into my own calligraphy and mastered the art of calligraphy, which brings good luck. At my family's rice cake shop in Fukushima Prefecture, I wrote the name of the baby in calligraphy on rice cakes to celebrate the baby's first birthday and sold them. It was a unique piece of calligraphy, written in graphology to wish the baby happiness. Over the course of 20 years, I wrote graphology calligraphy for 800,000 people.

Overcoming difficulties However, in 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, and due to various influences, we closed our family business. I put down my brush for a while, but with the encouragement of customers who found me on social media, I resumed my activities as a calligraphy artist in 2023.

All the fun and hard times make me who I am. The world is currently in a state of uncertainty. I changed my pen name to "Mura" (Scroll) with the desire to write calligraphy of wishes, something that only I, who overcame the earthquake disaster, can do. "Mura" means that many things are intertwined.

I write this in hopes of a bright future for you. I want to treasure these once-in-a-lifetime encounters. I will write for you, who have come all the way to Japan. I hope that my calligraphy will help you draw to yourself the future you envision.

He was active as a painter from an early age. The calligraphy is accompanied by my paintings (I am a calligrapher, but also a painter). These paintings are a reflection of Japan. Beauty, gentleness, freshness, strength...

A one-of-a-kind piece Choose a picture that inspires you and combine it with the calligraphy of your name. Come on, let's create a one-of-a-kind piece of art that brings happiness to the world.

Hiratsuka, the town of craftsmen, is about 70 minutes from Haneda Airport! It takes about 70 minutes by train from Haneda Airport to Hiratsuka Station. Other nearby destinations include Kamakura and Hakone. Hiratsuka has been a town of craftsmen since the Edo period. It is a town of amazing craftsmanship. For that reason, compared to Kamakura and Hakone, it has fewer tourist attractions and is a hidden gem that is not well known to foreign travelers.
