Plan description

You can experience the "Chanoyu" tea ceremony, a comprehensive art form of Japanese culture, in a traditional Kyoto townhouse, where a teacher will prepare the tea and you can also make the tea yourself. For this plan, you will come to Yumeyakata Gojo store, change into your kimono, and then move to the venue for the tea ceremony experience, Yumeyakata Oike Bettei, by yourself. As it takes 1.5 hours to dress and style your hair, if you arrive at 10:00, the tea ceremony experience will be from 12:00 to 13:00. After the tea ceremony experience, you can use the kimono as it is. Please return it to Yumeyakata Gojo store by 17:30.

Teacher Introduction

Suzuki Aya, a full-time instructor at the Urasenke School of Tea Ceremony [Chana Sobun] Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1964. She has been going to Kyoto since her teens to learn Urasenke tea ceremony. Fascinated by the deep spirituality and underlying philosophy of tea ceremony, she has a passionate desire to convey the goodness of tea ceremony to many people and has decided to become an instructor. She is not only skilled in tea ceremony, but also in Japanese culture such as calligraphy and flower arrangement, and is a master-level expert. Her hobbies are hot yoga and walking around Kyoto. She believes that "studying tea ceremony is about refining the mind and learning how to live," and she works hard every day. Move to Yumeyakata Oike Villa After changing, you will proceed to the venue for the tea ceremony experience, Yumeyakata Oike Bettei, on your own.

Mini tea ceremony lesson (approx. 10 minutes) / Yumeyakata original booklet gift The teacher talks about the tea ceremony. The meaning and history of the tea ceremony. Starting with "What is the tea ceremony?", he explains the hanging scroll and tools in the tokonoma alcove.

About 25 minutes before the teacher Observe the teacher's tea ceremony. Experience a quiet and dignified space and time. Each movement has a meaning. One person will be asked to serve sweets and matcha tea on behalf of the group.
