The Northern Alps are home to majestic 3,000m-class mountains. You can trek along the ridgeline from Mt. Koshiro to Mt. Nagamine while taking in this unparalleled view. In the spring, you can enjoy the overwhelming sense of openness of the cherry blossoms of Koshiro and the trekking spot nicknamed the "rising dragon." In the fall, you can enjoy the first snowfall in the Northern Alps as the mountains are colored with autumn leaves. A magnificent view can be seen at the end of the hike. Listen carefully to the rustling of the leaves and the singing of the birds. The pleasant breeze on your skin will make you want to take a deep breath and stay there forever. Standing at the top of Mt. Nagamine, and taking in the magnificent view in your mind, you will surely forget the stresses of everyday life.
Mt. Kojo, known as a famous cherry blossom spot, is in full bloom with the cherry trees planted along the mountain trail, creating dragon-like pink streaks on the mountainside. At Mt. Kojo in Azumino City, about 1,500 cherry trees, including Somei-Yoshino, are planted along the 300-meter-high mountain trail from the base to the summit. These trees have been planted by locals for about 100 years, and are called "rising dragons" because of the dragon-like pink streaks that appear on the mountainside along the winding mountain trail.
In Azumino, the mountains of the Northern Alps towering to the west are called Nishiyama, and the mountains to the east are called Higashiyama. The ridges of Mt. Kojo and Mt. Nagamine face off against the Northern Alps Jonen Mountains across the city, offering a spectacular view that is hard to believe is only 900 meters above sea level.
