Plan description

Although Kyogakura is a satoyama, the difficulty level is a little high, and the ridgeline is a thrilling mountain trail with a horseback and a rocky area that you have to climb straight up, and it is a trekking course also known as the Grand Canyon of Nagano. A trekking spot where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the four seasons and historical sights, the mountain peak with its beautiful rhododendrons and rockfoils in spring and autumn leaves in autumn, offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of the Northern Alps and the Sai River. Once you are immersed in the magnificent scenery, you will surely forget the stress of everyday life.

Recommended for those heading to the Northern Alps

In addition to building up your physical strength, you can also learn the techniques essential for rock walking, such as three-point support on rocky areas and being careful of loose rocks, and with the advice of your guide, it's an ideal training opportunity.

Historical highlights

The story of this mountain is that during the Sengoku period, the Maruyama clan (a branch of the Nishina clan), who ruled Ikusakadani, built a castle on the mountain to prepare for a battle with Takeda Shingen of Kai. After the fall of the Takeda clan, the mountain was attacked by the Ogasawara clan of Fuchu (Matsumoto), and the mountain trail from Kyogakura to Oshiro to Nemuri Pass was an important strategic road used by the Ogasawara clan when they attacked Omi Castle. Climbing this mountain is different from regular Satoyama climbing, and there are some steep sections, but it is fun to explore the many historical sites that were once battlefields and climb the mountain while thinking about the past.
