The Naruto whirlpools are a "natural phenomenon" created by the strong tidal currents caused by the tidal difference between the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel. The tidal currents of the Naruto Strait are said to be one of the "three largest tidal currents in the world", along with the Strait of Messina in Italy and the Seymour Strait in Canada. The speed of the currents can reach more than 20km per hour at the peak of the spring tide, making it the fastest in Japan. There are several activities to see this incredible power of nature with your own eyes, but the most popular is to board a sightseeing boat and see the whirlpools up close from the deck. Another popular activity is to see the whirlpools from above. The 450-meter-long Onaruto Bridge Uzu-no-michi Promenade, built on the lower deck of the Naruto Bridge connecting Tokushima Prefecture and Awaji Island, features sturdy glass floor panels that allow you to see the shape of the whirlpools. The spectacular bird's-eye view from the suspension bridge, 45 meters above sea level, makes it easy to spot the multiple whirlpools at a glance.
The Awa Odori Kaikan is the best place to learn and try out one of Japan's most famous traditional dances. The main attraction is the Awa Odori Hall, where Awa Odori performances are held almost every day, both in the afternoon and evening. The Awa Odori dance is held during the Obon period to honor the spirits of ancestors, and its history dates back about 400 years. Here, you can enjoy the Awa Odori dance of a dedicated group and then dance with them afterwards. There is also the Awa Odori Museum, where you can learn about the history of Awa Odori while having fun, and the Tokushima Prefectural Products and Tourism Exchange Plaza, where you can find Tokushima souvenirs. The fifth floor is the base station of the Bizan Ropeway.
A special resort on Awaji Island brought to you by Happy Pancakes! You can enjoy the best ocean view from every seat, including the terrace seats where you can enjoy the sea breeze and the sound of the waves, as well as inside the restaurant. Photo spots that will make you want to take photos, such as the "Bell of Happiness," the "Cape Swing," and the "Stairs of Happiness," are very popular with customers! In addition, we offer many Awaji Island-exclusive menus that can only be enjoyed here in the whole country. Please enjoy the best views full of openness and the resort atmosphere. Snack budget: Approximately 1,000 to 3,000 yen per person, please bring your own snacks.
