Enjoying the world of stone carving We have inherited Komatsu's stone culture and have been carving stones by hand for over 75 years. Mr. Takamura Nakatani, 92 years old, has been certified as a ``stone craftsman'', the highest authority for stone processing and self-made stone products. In this program, we will tour Mr. Nakatani's workshop and perform full-scale stone carving under the guidance of Mr. Shuichiro Funatsu, who has a desire to pass on this stone processing technology to future generations and pass it on to future generations. You can experience it. Please see, touch and experience Mr. Nakatani's techniques and the charm of stone culture to the fullest.

The more you carve, the deeper it becomes! Authentic professional stone carving experience

In the stone carving experience, you will carve a mini stone lantern. Normally, there are 5 to 6 different parts for a lantern, but we create a simplified, modern, integrated one. In addition to carving stones, participants will also be asked to create designs. Based on the stone-sized drawings that will be sent to you in advance, you will be asked to create a simple drawing yourself, and on the day of the experience, you will be guided by Mr. Nakatani and Mr. Funatsu from creating the actual design to carving the stone. You can experience it below. Experience how hard it is to carve hard stone by hand and how to shape the curves in a serious experience that can only be found here, and experience the difficulty and depth of the process.

From traditional stone Buddhas to modern objects! Tour of the workshop where the works are lined up

Before the carving experience, you can take a look at the works that Mr. Nakatani has created so far, with Mr. Funatsu providing an explanation. The space is lined with a variety of works, from familiar stone Buddha statues to unique pieces unique to Mr. Nakatani. In addition to Takigahara stone, there are also works using stones such as Nichikaseki and Sakudani stone, so please try to taste the differences depending on the type of stone.

Ask me anything about stones. You too can become a stone enthusiast!

Mr. Funatsu, who serves as a guide for this program, is himself a stone sculptor and a geoguide with extensive knowledge of the Takigahara area. He not only explains about Mr. Nakatani, but also explains Komatsu's stone culture. They will answer anything about stones, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask them and learn everything about stones!
