★ COOL HIROSHIMA ★
Japanese calligraphy is an artistic form of writing with a brush and ink to express your mind.
As a traditional visual art, people look at the calligraphy and appreciate the beauty and impressions of characters and their meanings.
Unlike paintings or other writings, you have only one chance to write with a brush. The brush strokes cannot be corrected or even rewritten.
Usually, you need to sit straight on the floor and focus on calligraphy,
but in this plan we provide tables and chairs for overseas visitors as they may find it difficult to sit on the floor.
Our school is located in central Hiroshima and easy to access, come stop by on your visit to this area if time permits between your sightseeing programs.
As a memory of your Hiroshima trip, join our special Japanese calligraphy experience offered by a professional instructor.
※English speaking guide is available.
※ Gift brush and plain folding fan included.
You can take home the brush used in the experience and the folding fan used for the clean copy as a souvenir. The work will be an important original calligraphy that shows the individuality of each participant. New brushes and folding fans prepared by the instructor will be used. With an English interpreter, you can deepen your understanding of calligraphy.
Folding fans made of bamboo and Japanese paper are now used as a tool for learning arts and as a tool for dressing up in Japanese clothing. However, in the olden days, waka poems and short letters were written on folding fans and sent to others. A folding fan with your own calligraphy will make a wonderful souvenir of your trip to Japan.
The instructor, Yosui Sugioka, is one of the top five calligraphers living in Hiroshima. Choose the kanji you want to write and practice while looking at the model. The instructor will teach you how to use the brush, so don't worry even if you are a beginner.

Plan attractions
説明 書道の道具一式（筆、硯、墨、文鎮、フェルト下敷き、半紙、筆置、水滴）を説明します。
文字と書体選び 書道専用の字典で、選んだ字のさまざまな書体を参考に見ます。
お手本作成 講師が手本の字をいくつか書きます。講師の書道は、「読めない字は書かない」が基本です。
書いてみましょう 筆の持ち方や墨の付け方などについて、その都度指導していきます。
アドバイス 筆運びや線の強弱などについても、細かく指導します。
コツも教えます 修正箇所を書き直していきます。
扇子に清書 文鎮で広げた扇子を抑え、いよいよ清書です。書き直しが出来ない一発勝負が、書道芸術です。
完成 たいへん上手に清書できました。アルファベットは表音文字、漢字は表意文字。だから字の意味を感じ取るのが書だ、と講師は言います。

①集合・説明
書道の意味や歴史と、古来から使用されている筆記用具などについて、講師が説明します。
②文字と書体選び
参加者が書きたい字や書体を、字典をもとに講師と一緒に選らんで決めます。
③お手本作成
参加者それぞれの書きたい字の手本を、講師が書きます。
書いてみましょう
④実践
その手本を基本に、書道のレッスンをしていきます。筆の持ち方、力の入れ方、運び方、墨の入れ方、線や濃淡の表し方などについて、細かく指導します。
いよいよ清書
⑤清書
練習した字を、いよいよ扇子に清書します。
⑥終了
記念撮影で、終了、解散。
