"Yanbaru" in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa, which has one of the largest subtropical laurel forests in Japan, was designated as a national park last year. This area, where nature and human life have been closely related, is scheduled to be registered as a World Natural Heritage site as a place where you can still see the fauna and flora that are rare in the world.
