Founded in 1834 (Tenpo 4). It is the only traditional technique in Kanagawa prefecture that has been used since the Edo period, and all are carefully hand-dyed one by one. Our big catch flag is also designated as "100 selections of Kanagawa's specialty", and it is used as a gift of life milestones such as "marriage", "birth", "festival", "old noble" and "60th birthday" as a celebration flag.
Really fun and interesting workshop to learn the history of tairyo bata and painting your own. There is also a shop where you can buy cool handmade items like tenugui hand towels. The Miura peninsula is also very scenic. Tip: The tairyo bata takes 3-4 days to ship in Japan so if you are on vacation, I recommend booking early in you itinerary so you can get the finished flag before leaving.
