刀鍛冶　正也

大変貴重な体験をさせていただきました。刀鍛冶にはとても長い時間がかかるイメージがあり、1日で体験できる量には限界があると思って参加しましたが、よい意味で予想に反して多くの経験をさせていただきました。こちらの質問にも様々たくさん答えていただき、大変楽しい時間を過ごしました。ありがとうございました。

作ることに興味があり、その中で鍛冶に興味が出ました。
日本で鍛冶といえばやはり日本刀、そして現在の刀鍛冶で有名なのは関市と備前市、今回は関のこちらで体験をさせて頂きました。
うっすらとした知識はあるものの刀剣ファンではなかったのですが、日本刀の知識や歴史を含めて教えて貰えたので勉強になりました。鍛冶の素延べ等を実際に体験し、その難しさや刀匠の技術の高さの一端を垣間見ることが出来ました。
こちらでは研磨や鞘も含めて作らせてもらえたのでとても貴重な経験になりました。
体験後小柄に不備があり相談した際には、体験後なのに親切に対応してくださったので非常に助かりました。また機会を見つけて体験させてもらおうかなと思える素晴らしい体験でした。

An amazing experience. Master Yoshida is a fantastic swords smith and highly detail oriented. He currently has an American apprentice who speaks English. Between the two of them we were able to see, do and learn a lot. I highly recommend anyone who is wanting to get the sword making experience and a sword to use them. This was the highlight of my Japan trip and an experience I will never forget.

包丁作り体験に行きました。
かなり多くの工程を体験出来たので、非常に満足です。

その分、長時間＆体力をかなり消耗するため、前後の日程の組み方や体調管理には万全を期したほうが良いでしょう。
また、現地集合の場合は場所が少しわかりにくいので、事前確認と余裕を持った行程が必要になります。

体験自体はとても楽しいのでオススメです。

If you have heard about the legendary craftsmanship of Japanese sword makers and you want to see how it's done, this is the experience for you. Although we made a kozuka and not a katana, the overall steps are the same. As an English speaker, I spent most of my time with Master Masaya's apprentice, Robert Guest. Robert is about 6 months away from testing to become a master bladesmith so he is also quite accomplished and incredibly knowledgeable. The care that is dedicated to ensuring you have a good experience and end up with a blade you can be proud of is inspiring.
