It's getting warmer, so I want to go on a trip, SNSK.

Recently, I'm interested in potter's wheel and hand-kneading, but do you know "Shigaraki ware"? It is a historic pottery that originated in Koka City (former Shigaraki Town) in Shiga Prefecture, and is described as "simple and dynamic." Because of the quality of the soil, it is suitable for "making big things", so I often see it used in platters at restaurants in the Kanto region. I think everyone has seen it. It is counted as one of the six ancient kilns in Japan and was certified as a Japanese heritage last year (2017).

Origin of raccoon dog, which is synonymous with Shigaraki ware

Pottery is also famous, but the most famous one is the raccoon dog figurine. Shigaraki raccoon dogs have various meanings as lucky charms, and you can see them placed at the entrances of restaurants. It is a figurine of prosperous business because it seems to be "raccoon dog" from "exceed others". Umbrellas protect you from unexpected disasters, big eyes look around and make correct decisions, smiles are friendly to each other, sake bottles acquire human virtue, credit is first in the passbook, and big stomach is Calm and bold judgment, gold ball bag for good luck, thick tail for a solid end. It represents the auspiciousness called eight-phase auspiciousness.

In 1951, when Emperor Showa went to Shigaraki, many Shigaraki raccoon dogs were set up along the road with a small flag of the Hinomaru, and I was impressed by the endless scene of the raccoon dogs.

"If you look at the raccoon dogs of the nostalgic raccoon dogs from the gathering"
(I miss the Shigaraki raccoon dogs I collected when I was little)

I wrote the song. It seems that this anecdote was taken up in the newspaper and Shigaraki raccoon dog broke. Well, I'm showing off some rare and informative bean knowledge, but do you have any experience in ceramic art? It's pretty good. Somehow, the artistic part is stimulated. It's like playing with clay. Making things is fun.

Make a raccoon dog with a Shigaraki pottery experience

[Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture] Let's easily experience ceramic art with embossed raccoon dogs (about 90 minutes) Empty-handed OK! Children can also enjoy!

A newborn raccoon dog in an open mold! Makeover with various parts made of clay! It's a simple ceramic art experience just by fitting a mold. Instead of using the prepared mold as it is, you can add various parts with clay to create an original appearance, so you can make the most of your individuality. Please devise your own way and enjoy yourself.

You can rotate the potter's wheel (it seems to be electric now), and you can use a plate or a coffee cup by hand, but I would like to introduce a slightly different plan. It's a great deal, so it's a Shigaraki raccoon dog that is synonymous with Shigaraki ware. It's a course that can be made from embossing, so it's safe for those who say, "I wasn't very good at drawing." Children can also make it well. First, put clay in a mold to make a cute raccoon dog base, and then make your own belongings.

You can use it based on the eight-phase auspices, or you can have a lucky charm that suits you. The work made with glaze (the shop staff will tell you the color) is then fired (it takes time to bake) and it's done. It is the only raccoon dog in the world. Lol. You can send it to your home for an additional fee, so it's okay for people far away.

This facility is a 5-minute walk from Chokushi Station on the Shigaraki Kogen Railway (Shigaraki Kogen Railway), and a 5-minute drive from the Shigaraki IC on the Shin-Meishin Expressway. There are also many. There are also souvenir sales and ceramic art classes. Raccoon dogs of various sizes as shown in the picture welcome you.

In fact, 1200 years ago, the first tea brought back from China was cultivated in the Asamiya district of Shigaraki, which is said to be the "Asamiya tea" and is one of the "five major teas in Japan". It's actually a teahouse. So tea is also recommended.

Although it is only 2 stations from Shigaraki Station, this Shigaraki Kogen Railway is a very quaint line with a 2-car train of non-electrified single track lines. It takes about an hour from JR Kusatsu station, but I think it's well worth the trip. However, the number of trains is not very large, so it is recommended to check the time in advance.

From now on, weekends and holidays are expected to be quite popular and crowded, so it may be better to make a reservation (drink benefits included only until November!). By the way, if you apply for this plan with a group of 21 or more people, it seems that the first place will hold a general election where you can get a medal. That sounds like a lot of fun.
