Snowshoe trekking at the foot of the World Heritage Site, Shirakami-Sanchi! Enjoy an easy snowshoe trekking experience near the village. You can even dive into the snow for photogenic moments! Children aged 6 and over are welcome to participate, making this a great opportunity to create memories with your children! Experience the majesty of nature as you leisurely trek through the fluffy snow on snowshoes. Experienced certified guides from the Akita Shirakami Guide Association will guide you. Even if you're new to snowshoeing, we'll provide thorough instruction, so you can relax. If you're lucky, you might even see animal footprints! Recommended things to do before or after your experience: Take a break at Mori no Eki. They offer premium soft serve ice cream and coffee brewed with water from the Shirakami-Sanchi. Souvenirs are also available for purchase. Daytime bathing is available. The Yunosawa Onsen hot springs near Mori no Eki are famous for their skin-beautifying hot springs. The Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage Center Fujisatokan is located next to Mori no Eki. Free admission. Open from 10:00 to 16:00 in winter, closed Mondays and Tuesdays (or the following day if Mondays and Tuesdays fall on a public holiday). This snow trekking tour searches for Asiatic black bear tracks in the winter forest. The beech forests of Hachimantai, deep in the mountains of northern Tohoku, are home to many Asiatic black bears. Explore the forest on snowshoes or skis, deep into the forest, accessible only in winter, in search of bear tracks. Through tracking, you'll learn about the trees used by the bears of Hachimantai and imagine what they were doing at different times of the year, learning how to maintain an appropriate distance from bears outdoors. You'll see various bear tracks, including claw marks in the trees, "bear shelves" where bears feed, and tree hollows (old hibernation holes). Learn about the trees used by bears through claw marks and winter buds, observe the footprints of wild birds and other animals, and experience the charm of the Hachimantai forest.

Enjoy walking, climbing, and gliding through the deep powder snow in the beech forest of Yamagemori (1,206m above sea level), which spreads around Akita Hachimantai Ski Resort. The allure of this course lies in the primeval beech forest that spreads out just a step from the ski slopes. Accessible only during the snow season, this forest offers a snowy landscape typical of the heavy snowfall of Hachimantai. While enjoying the forest scenery, find a suitable slope and try your hand at skiing! This combination is a fun and innovative winter activity. Courses can be tailored to suit your skiing proficiency level. We offer a variety of courses, from lift-accessible courses for those who want to ski a lot to flat courses for those who prefer to enjoy nature over skiing.

This highly recommended snowshoe tour explores the snow-covered fumarolic zone of the Ushiro-no-Ikegake Nature Study Trail in Hachimantai, a region of heavy snowfall in northern Tohoku. The tour boasts impressive mud and hot spring activity, as well as unique snow formations created by geothermal heat. The trail features moderate ups and downs, making it a special course only accessible during the snowy winter months. While visiting viewpoints where you can observe dynamic volcanic phenomena, such as the hot spring pond "Oyunuma" and the "Omud Volcano," Japan's largest, you can run across vast snowfields, sprint down powdery slopes, and enjoy sliding down natural snow slides. Customizable courses are available, so even children aged elementary school and older, as well as those with limited physical fitness, can participate. Guides are staff from the Hachimantai Visitor Center, familiar with the local natural environment and culture, and will guide you safely and enjoyably through the snowfields while introducing you to the wonders of nature.
