During this experience, you will receive a lecture on Japanese swords, learn kata (cutting techniques), practice sparring, test-fire a bow and arrow, and try slashing with a mock sword. During the test-slash, you will slash multiple targets while moving with the mock sword. Slashing while moving is extremely difficult. Please experience the difficulty for yourself! Your instructor will be Yoshioki Sumida, assistant instructor of the All Japan Toyama-ryu Iaido Federation. With over 27 years of experience, he has taught at overseas branches in the United States, Europe, and Hong Kong. He is one of the very few instructors in the world who has deeply mastered and continues to pass on both kenjutsu and yabusame. This plan is conducted in Japanese by a Japanese taiko instructor and includes an English translation guide. Wadaiko is a traditional Japanese culture that has been around for over 5,000 years, with close ties to samurai, kabuki, festivals, sumo, and more. It can be enjoyed by people of all ages, genders, nationalities, and even those with no prior experience playing an instrument. It combines elements of sport and brain training, and is used at shrines and temples as an instrument that is inhabited by gods, to ward off evil and pray for happiness, making it a perfect gift or celebration.
