What you'll doYou have an experience of Sashiko embroidery stitching through making "Sashiko fukin"."Sashiko fukin" is known as dish towel in Japan and very popular Sashiko learning item for novices. This item is very practical. After finishing to make, you can use it as handkerchief, lunch mat, wrapping something like sandwich, flower base mat etc.The size is approx. 33cm×33cm.Although you cannot finish the stitching during the experience, you will get knowledge and skill how to complete it by yourself. Therefore you can enjoy the stitching even at home.Step 1: Choose a Sashiko pattern and a thread color.I've provided you with many sort of Sashiko cloths which is printed on a fabric and thread colors. Please enjoy picking your favorite one out.Step 2: Preparation.I introduce how to treat for a fabric and a thread before doing stitch.Step 3: Do Sashiko stitching.After showing my demonstration to you, you will start stitching on the cloth you chosen. This time makes you enjoy and relax!Step 4: Explain Sashiko basic role and tips.Before closing the session, I explain about general order of stitching, things to watch out for, tips and so on.

Would you like to make your own original washi notebook? Japanese binding is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique that uses high-quality Japanese paper and linen thread, and has been passed down since the Heian period (794). In the workshop, we will start with ``Japanese paper dyeing'', which involves adding color to Japanese paper to create the cover of a notebook. ①Make the cover of your notebook by coloring Japanese paper. You can either fold the washi paper and dye it in color, or use a paper pattern to dye it. ② Applying the Japanese binding technique, assemble the inside of the notebook (*) and the cover of the notebook with embroidery thread. The size of the notebook is A6 (105 x 148.5 mm). Your one and only Japanese-bound notebook will be completed. At the end, we will serve Japanese sweets along with "Japanese paper tea" that is not available anywhere else! We hope that you will enjoy the beauty and depth of Japanese paper through this workshop. Learn basic washi ink techniques and washi paper cutting, and create your own original washi art work (one postcard and A5 size washi art). Washi ink is an original design tool. Ink is made by melting colored washi paper. By using that ink, you can make your art colorful. By the way, when was the last time you wrote a letter? Write a letter to your loved ones using the postcard you created! (Stationery will also be provided). While waiting for the paper to dry, relax with the world's one and only original "Japanese paper tea" and local Japanese sweets. Using the traditional craft "Ise Katagami", which has been passed down in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture for over 1000 years, the cloth is stencil-dyed. "Ise Katagami" is made by a craftsman called a stencil carver who carves intricate patterns and designs on durable Japanese paper with a carving knife. It is surprising that more than 900 patterns are carved into a one-inch square (about 3 cm) with fine details. Try it out and experience its delicacy and beauty. You can choose the cloth to be dyed from handkerchiefs, tea mats, and coasters.

Experience Japanese tradition and create your own creations! Mini origami lamps are made by folding several sheets of handmade Japanese paper into a bellows shape and gluing them together. When a small lamp is inserted into the bellows-shaped washi paper, it emits a gentle and warm light. When the bellows is closed, it resembles a closed book, and the obi is decorated with a mizuhiki knot. You will create a one-of-a-kind origami lamp piece in the world. Lastly, we will serve Japanese sweets along with "Japanese paper tea" that is not available anywhere else! Mizuhiki is a traditional paper string made of twisted Japanese paper wrapped in nylon or film. Did you know that each knot has a meaning? Once you know the meaning of the knot, it's the perfect gift. Washi paper is lightweight and durable, making it ideal for artwork and interior decoration.
