Ani in Kitaakita City is said to be the birthplace of Matagi, and the culture of hunting remains today according to traditional customs. With an active Matagi as the instructor, you can learn about hunting while experiencing Matagi culture and techniques, an experience that can only be enjoyed in Kitaakita. [Experience content] - Lecture - About animal footprints and traces - - Experience setting up a temporary snare trap (spring to autumn) - Experience walking on snow in snowshoes (winter) - Shooting experience

"Classroom Lecture: Animal Footprints and Traces"

You will learn about the ecology of the animals hunted by Matagi, as well as the characteristics of their footprints. You will hear stories based on actual experiences in the mountains. You will also hear valuable lectures on the Matagi's spirituality and traditions. If you wish, you can also learn about hunting licenses and guns.

"Temporary snare trap experience" or "Snowshoe walking experience"

"Temporary snare trap setting experience" Learn how to set up snare traps, which are useful for hunting deer, wild boar, and other animals, using the actual snare traps. A matagi will carefully teach you how to set them up. You will gain access to knowledge that only a wealth of experience can provide, such as points to note when setting up the snare traps and how to determine the best location. *This experience takes place from spring to autumn, when there is no accumulated snow. "Walking on snow in snow" experience Learn how to walk in the matagi style when searching for prey in the snowy mountains. Wearing snowshoes, which are actually used in hunting grounds, you will walk on the snow with a matagi. You can also try out rabbit drive hunting using the traditional straw mat. *This experience takes place during the snowy season.

"Shooting experience"

You will have the opportunity to experience shooting with a toy gun. You will gain highly specialized knowledge, including how to handle a gun, how to load a bolt-action gun, and what to be careful of when looking through a scope. *Please note that due to age restrictions for toy guns, those under 18 years of age are not permitted to shoot.
